Advised to phase out HRT- symptoms returning?

I’m 41, I was put on hrt 18 months ago (Evorel sequi 50) due to the long list of symptoms;
palpitations
exhaustion
anxiety
night sweats
Weird electrified trembling feeling
low mood
etc etc

I also had ongoing issues with a very low resting heart rate, (33bpm) and other thyroid type symptoms (I know there is substantial overlap) - thyroid came back subclinical/normal. I saw a cardiologist for my low heart rate and palpitations, but was also found to have low ferritin and b vit so have supplemented those. Earlier this month I discussed with my gp that maybe I didn’t ever need HRT at all and that my symptoms were all due to my low iron.( I no longer take the ferrous sulphate, I took it daily for a year). Gp advised that I could phase out the patches, only change once a week, then once a fornight - her words were “you’ll know if it’s oestrogen related because your symptoms will return”

2 weeks on this reduced dose and I’m back to almost constant palpitations, Thundering away. Insomnia two nights this week, feeling really tired etc. Would this indicate then that I need to go back up to my previous dose? How long would it take for the reduced oestrogen to have an impact?

At your age probably very soon.

You're very young for this and although people will quote 'peri can last 10 years' my experience and that of some friends is that it didn't start till late 40s.

I've tried reducing and within a month my sleep was hopeless and I'm much older than you.

thanks @JinglingSpringbells, yes I am young for it. I was really hoping that the HRT was a red herring really but if after a fortnight things are already returning then maybe I do need it? I also had 3 nights of sweats last week before my period, which again I hadn’t had for ages. I think I’ll just go back on my original dose rather than let my hormone levels drop any more. I was a gibbering anxious wreck when they put me on it so I can’t risk going back to that again!
