Peri or anxiety?

Trying to work out if my recent anxiety/ depression symptoms are peri related.

Last 2 cycles have been 22 and 25 days.
3 solid weeks of anxiety/sadness that came out of nowhere. Just can't snap out of it.
Periods are lighter in colour, as if watered down.
Possible brain fog, struggle to put a sentence together some days.

No hot flushes.

I'm mid 40s. From what I've read a blood test is inaccurate. I can't be certain if I'm just struggling with my mental health or if it's peri related.

Can anyone help?

Thank you

@FashionCrazy what have your previous cycles been like?

I'm 46. Cycles are pretty regular 23/24. Gets heavier on day but manageable but the rage is unbelievable! And feeling paranoid!
Have to tell myself over and over - no one is laughing at you and people are too wrapped up in themselves - as we all are! - to be concerning themselves with what I'm doing!!!

I don't know - but our age does point towards peri......and moving into menopause.
To think o was TTC my second a few years ago - never happened for us .

That was me. Weird periods and huge anxiety. Brain fog too. I take regular medication for an unrelated condition and I literally could not remember when or if I’d taken it. So weird and unsettling, I had to start writing it down! Also felt knackered and just flat, no enthusiasm for anything, I was either just….blank, or riddled with anxiety or massive rage. No hot flushes for me either.

Dr did bloods, told me I was fine but gave me sertraline for the anxiety. That was horrific. I developed horrendous paranoia which I have never experienced before and never want to again.
Paid to see a private menopause specialist gp. She was brilliant, very through and paid attention. She prescribed me hrt (I’m mid 40s like you) and although it’s early days, I am starting to feel better. The anxiety is still there but feels more manageable and my periods have returned to their regular 5 week cycle.

Go to your gp and ask for hrt. Over the age of 45 (I think) they should prescribe based on symptoms rather than blood tests because, as you say, they are so unreliable. Try it, it can’t hurt.

I think the guidelines are over 40 they can prescribe on symptoms. I was put on HRT for anxiety/intrusive thoughts symptoms as soon as I turned 40 at my request. It has definitely helped although I was also really low on ferritin and that can also cause the sort of paranoid, anxiety, feeling of doom symptoms as well.
