I’m wondering if anyone can advise me. My periods are all over the place. They last ages and start early. I just had a positive ovulation test for the normal 2 days then period started immediately after - so two weeks early. I’m guessing it is progesterone deficiency (after googling). Also I’ve got sore breasts which relates to progesterone deficiency (according to Google!). Can anyone recommend a supplement that will help me. Preferably an over the counter supplement.

How old are you?, do you have any other perimenopause symptoms?

Hi @Christine0708 Im 49 at the end of March. The symptoms are just really long periods lasting over 3 weeks. For the last long one the doctor gave me norethisterone because I was going on holiday. After that I had a normal 6 day period. Then it stopped and 10 days later it has started again. I had a week of having hot flashes about 2 months ago but they subsided. So no other symptoms.

Would you consider HRT?

Tillyminny · 23/02/2025 20:32

Yes @Christine0708 if it would help. But then you hear horror stories about it causing cancer etc. so I was wondering about OTC or natural supplements. I really don’t want the coil because I know what impact it had on my periods previously.

I’ve been on HRT for 18months and it’s brilliant. I am on oestrogen patches and body identical progesterone.

Thank you. What were your symptoms before you took it?

@Tillyminny At 49 you could still use the Pill (if you don't smoke and aren't overweight) or the progesterone only pill (mini pill.) These can be a solution to irregular periods and the other symptoms you're having.

Talk to your GP ?

There's nothing OTC that can regulate periods.

Christine0708 · 24/02/2025 16:42

@Tillyminny I had anxiety, brain fog and periods everywhere plus others

Tillyminny · 24/02/2025 18:46

@Christine0708 sounds similar to me regarding the periods. Thank you

@JinglingSpringbells thank you. The doctor only suggested the coil. I’ll get a second opinion I think.
