Low blood pressure

Has anyone found low blood pressure to be one of their peri symptoms? If so what did you do to help?

Thanks in advance

You might want to get it checked out in case there are underlying problems. I've always had it, and luckily love salt, so I eat lots of salty food to keep it raised. Exercising and drinking plenty of water also help me.

I've been trying for the past year to get the GP to take me seriously but it's been a battle. It'a only after a hospital visit that they were prepared to do a 24 hour bp monitor which has shown consistently low bp. I'm not sure what they'll do next

I’ve always had very low BP. Why are you worried - have you been fainting?

skelter83 · 20/02/2025 20:44

I’m really interested in this too. I’ve always had low BP but now my systolic number is consistently around 50 and I read online that this is also an indicator of future heart problems. I do get lightheaded but I’ve been so used to it over the years, I don’t even register it anymore. Not sure what can be done about it anyway?

crisismode · 20/02/2025 20:50

There are medications to raise BP if you are symptomatic. Increasing fluids and adding salt is the first step, along with compression wear. Ask your GP and explain your symptoms are affecting quality of life.

tigertummy · 20/02/2025 21:04

I feel very dizzy and faint and have passed out a few times. It used to happen a lot in my teens and then nothing until recently so it feels hormone related. It's scary as I have young children and feeling so weird all the time is quite scary when I'm responsible for them

That is very scary. I’ve never fainted except in pregnancy. You should definitely pursue this.

tigertummy · 21/02/2025 02:17

@59thStreetBridgeSong it is scary. It's frustrating that the drs don't seem to take it seriously. It feels serious enough to me

@tigertummy this has happened to me lately. I've always had lowish bp, around 115/70, but over the past few months, its now on average 100/55. I'm 42, not sure if it's peri related, or if it's something else. At times I feel breathless and lightheaded. I know I have low Hb and ferritin so I've been supplementing but haven't noticed a change yet...

Catyln123 · 21/02/2025 12:37

@skelter83 how long have you had the low bp for and prior to this, was it normal? Ie was your lower number above 60?
I'm also worried that mine struggles to get above 60 and I don't know what has caused this change

tigertummy · 21/02/2025 14:26

Hi @Catyln123 sorry you seem to be going through similar. I am also taking various vitamins which don't seem to be making any difference. It seems to have been going on for almost 2 years now. I don't think I had low bp before as the symptoms I have with it are all new as well. During the 24 hour monitor it dropped to 50 at points

@tigertummy I'm sorry too, I find this very frustrating and it's giving me anxiety.
Can I ask how old you are and will your GP be following up with more tests or treatment?

tigertummy · 21/02/2025 14:39

I'm the same. It makes me so anxious! I'm 37. I can see my results on the app but can't get an appointment to speak to someone for 2 weeks. It's so frustrating

Catyln123 · 21/02/2025 14:48

@tigertummy that's a long wait! Have you had any bloods done? I was wondering if mine was linked to anemia due to heavy periods, but not sure if there's a link between low bp and low hb/ferritin...

tigertummy · 22/02/2025 05:21

I've had bloods done many many times. Nothing stands out as being off on them

@skelter83 sorry to pester but I am interested as I have the same issue as you.

It’s always been on the low side but it’s probably for about the last 6 months that it’s gone lower. I don’t really know what to do about it. Like I say, I’m sort of used to generally feeling a bit crap now.

jellyfishperiwinkle · 25/02/2025 11:29

I recommend soy sauce and coffee.

RainyDayClouds · 25/02/2025 11:30

I’m Interested in this too as I’m suffering from this and online it’s all about high blood pressure in menopause. My Blood pressure has always been low but recently it’s been in the 85/55 region most mornings. Even later in the day, I can usually only get 100/60 at most. Feeling faint & shaky especially on waking and so so exhausted. Got GP booked, but like others, it’s a two week wait.

I have had my thyroid checked last month and ok even though I had a partial thyroidectomy last April due to a large substernal nodule. I have gone back on Estrogel recently after trying to come off it for 3 months. Now been back on it for three months and I do have a lot of bloating and my boobs are hugely swollen and sore so have decided to try one pump instead of two. I’m 54 and due to hysterectomy aged 40, think I probably hit menopause earlier even though I kept my ovaries. So wondering if I need a slightly lower dose of estrogen. Also wondered if this has lowered my blood pressure slightly which in my case, is not a good thing.

I'm exactly the same as you, always been on low side around 115/65 -70 but now my lower number struggles to get to 60. On average it's 105/55. I feel tired and breathless.

Thanks yes it is isn’t it. So frustrating too that nearly every article online regarding menopause & BP only discusses high blood pressure, it’s like we don’t exist. I’m so utterly cold all the time too!

skelter83 · 25/02/2025 12:45

Yes - I am always freezing cold! I’m 44.

tigertummy · 25/02/2025 20:43

Sorry to hear so many others are suffering! As soon as I've spoken to the doctor I'll update you all. I've found eating salty foods, drinking lots of water and eating little and often helps a little
