Hi I know this thread isn’t updated but I’m trying to get answers or advice I am now 2 years into perimenopause for the last yr my periods have been irregular sometimes missing up to 3 months for the past 2 months I have had a very light period then 12 days later I spot bleed for 4/5 days then nothing for 10 days then I have another light period then 12 days after spotting again this isn’t heavy at all and hardly touches liner this month spotting has been on and off I didn’t have any for 2 days and then started again tonight only when I wipe I’m not on hrt I mean is this normal my real period is due in 7 days advice would be appreciated I’ve googled of course I have sent my anxiety through the roof I had bloods done 5 months ago and my estrogen was low but progesterone was normal so maybe it’s that I have a repeat bloods in March thanks in advance.

I think spotting is normal in perimenopause. At least I hope so as I have it! I have health anxiety so I try not to Google.
It sounds like you have already spoken to the doctor about it so I think you need to put the worry out of your mind unless they say anything different.

Perfectly normal! Bloods won't really tell you anything as they are just a snapshot of that day and your hormones will be fluctuating. As long as your dr is happy, then the other thing you could do is go on sequential HRT which will give you a regular bleed once settled.

its normal. I went on hrt as it was getting ridiculous and then I flooded. Keep an eye on your iron levels. The blood tests won’t show much for hormone levels. The hrt, once I got the right one, really helped. Then after a few years I got a Mirena put in and that has stopped any spotting.

its a bugger with spotting but not really worrying …

Thanks so much ladies that’s put my mind at ease I’m 53 I haven’t seen my doctor about it yet but I Carnt go on HRT either due to certain cancers in the family so I’m at a lost end there untill it gets me really annoyed or I get heavy periods I’ll go and see him it’s just inconvenient cause it’s there one minute only when I wipe and I don’t have it for a few days and then boom it’s there again but Thankyou for your lovely comments x

I am 58, last period on my 56th birthday. It was certainly normal for me, a couple of years like that and then a year of long heavy periods. No pain but it was a huge nuisance, I had sanitary towels in my car and a change of trousers etc. I feel great now I am post menopause. Best I have in decades. Not on hrt but my sister is and loves it.

This might be tmi but you might want to double up on protecting your mattress if it’s not too late. I celebrated being post menopause with a new bed and mattress.

I know at this point I just wished they would stop now why we have to go through this is beyond me I just looked at my results on my estrogen in 2022 they were levels at 512 and 5 months ago they were 182 so massive drop no wonder the spotting has started oh well seems a lot of women go through spotting instead of having a full on period I’d rather have a period that the random spotting thanks ladies x

I'm the same age as you OP and going through exactly the same thing. Not on HRT either. Hopefully it's normal!!

TraceyTarotReader · 20/02/2025 17:32

@KhakiOrca from what I have read on other forums is normal apparently it’s only a concern if you have really heavy periods and bleed heavy 2 times a month and also bleed or spot post menopause so I’m trying to keep my anxiety stable by these lovely ladies claiming my nerves lol .. I mean it’s more of an inconvenience than anything cause it stops then starts again I don’t need a liner cause it’s only there when I wipe but I have one on incase x
