Hi, I’m just trying to find anyone who might have experience of being on HRT and which has resulted in them having too much progesterone.

I'm wondering if this is happening to me because of the side effects I am having which include:

fatigue/no motivation
aching legs/lower back and general aching as if I’m due on when I’m not
headaches/thick head
being more emotional than usual and some low moods
increased water retention (I’ve had this confirmed by measurements done at the gym by a machine that measures body weight/fat/muscle mass etc.
some irregular bleeding

I have been taking progesterone since July last year but these symptoms have come about in the last month or so.

I take 100mg progesterone daily. I was still having periods though so I’m not sure continuous HRT is right for me from what I have read so I’m discussing this next week at my appointment.

The symptoms I’m having are different to the ones I was having before starting HRT and the oestrogen part of HRT has dealt with the other symptoms so I’m wondering if it’s worth discussing reducing the progesterone if that possible as these symptoms are putting my life on hold! 😭

Hi, the progesterone should be for only day 15 to 26 or so of your cycle, not daily? If you think it is your issue , you could have the mirena coil instead? That allows progesterone only locally where it is needed rather than systematically. Good luck.
