Mirena advice/experience

I've had a mirena as part of hrt for 2 months. I didn't get on very well with progesterone capsules so thought I'd give it a try, especially as the GP and menopause specialist advised it due to heavy periods. I still have regular cycles (age 54), and the bleeding has reduced to 'normal' levels rather than heavy, but the main issue is much increased period pain which lasts for several days.

Do I give up on the mirena and have it removed or persevere for a bit longer? Any advice/experience gratefully received.

Hi there! I have had the mirena for 3.5 years now and I'm glad I stuck with it. I also had period cramping and unpredictable spotting for about 6 months but it did stop and my periods also stopped which has been amazing. Even now I will get a bit of cramping (usually after moderate exercise) but honestly have experienced freedom for the most part. I'd stick with it.

Hi. My Mirena experience is almost exactly the same as the PP. Think it took about 7 months for periods to stop.
Hang on in there!

I remember a settling-in phase of spotting for four months. No cramping after the first day. I had two random light periods, then no periods. I have had a good experience with the Mirena. I hope it works for you op. I'd say to give it more time.
