Anyone suffer irritated bladder all of a sudden? Haven't slept properly in days

I'm so miserable and just don't understand it.

I'm post menopausal. Been on HRT since last September. Gradually upped my patch to 75mg at the end of November. All going great. Then about two weeks ago my bladder started feeling a bit uncomfortable. No pain when I wee and no infection (according to dip sticks). But it's getting worse and worse and I can't sleep now and I constantly feel like I need to wee.

Also, my breasts have been hurting for about 3 weeks.

Could my HRT need upping? Has anyone else had this awful bladder thing? I'm just desperate for some sleep.

sympathies OP, I had this at Christmas. Felt like a uti, but without burning, just the need to go for a wee and urgency that got more and more urgent.

Laying off any alcohol really helped. You may not drink alcohol but thought it worth mentioning - I overdid it a bit over Xmas and NY and it definitely had an effect, I was up 3 or 4 times a night and sleeping badly as I felt so uncomfortable all the time. as soon as I stopped any alcohol things improved very quickly.

Maybe you need some local oestrogen (pessaries or cream) to settle it down. Many women need both.

I have had several UTIs where the only symptom was frequency and sometimes urgency. Dip sticks are notoriously unreliable.

AlleyRose · 04/02/2025 00:20

Thanks both.

I don't drink alcohol and I've started the pessaries again a few days ago - stopped using them because I didn't like the discharge - but that was nothing compared to this fresh misery.

I only have one coffee first thing and I'll stop that from tomorrow. I took cystitis powders and nurofen before bed and it's done nothing. Just been for another wee that I don't need. It's awful. Think I'm going to have my first ever sick day tomorrow and go to the doctor.

I'm wondering if this could be it. I'll take a sample to the GP tomorrow. I hope it is to be honest. At least they can do something about it.

Just wondered if it was strange to have breast pain at the same time and whether it might be related.

Poor you, it really is miserable. Do go and see your GP, the discomfort and lack of sleep are no good for being fresh and capable at work.

Hot water bottle or micro hottie between my thighs helps me to sleep when I have this. The discomfort is awful I send my sympathies. I have this mainly when I'm dehydrated.

Sitting in a warm bath with no soap in also helps relieve discomfort for me.

A pharmacist might be able to give you antibiotics. I'd ask for them based on symptoms rather than waiting for lab results.

AlleyRose · 04/02/2025 00:31

I have a hot water bottle now and it's just not doing anything. I used to suffer really badly with UTIs and a hot water bottle was a god send but this just isn't touching it.

Good shout re the pharmacist. I might do both. Get a sample sent away to the lab and get some nitrofurantoin in the meantime.

I don't even know if it is a UTI. I'm scared it isn't and I'm going to feel like this forever.
