Help me lose the bloated tummy!

awillothewispaclown · 03/02/2025 22:23

I'm looking for some help please on losing an out of proportion bloated meno belly 😣
I'm 46yo, on HRT and have had The Belly (looks like 5 months pregnant, mostly upper abdomen) for about 2-3yrs. Recently I had an ovarian scan (all clear) and even did a preg test (ha, thankfully negative!), cos nothing, not even low carb low sugar no alcohol since Xmas, shifts it. I walk twice with dog every day and weight train 3-4 days a week. It's bloated all the time and hard.
Went to GP and having bloods done to check food intolerances. Has anyone been able to make a dent or regain a flat stomach at this point in life?? Low FODMAP diet? Any helpful supplements? Thank you 🙏🏼

Same problem. Not overweight. Just have the bloated tummy. Did all the tests and nothing wrong. Dont eat sugar or UPF or drink and have reduced carbs to a minimum. On HRT, walk a lot and do weights twice a week but not much impact.

Just want to give up now! It's a genetic thing. My mum is v slim but has a tummy.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through the same thing 😫 I dunno about you but I'd just really like to wear something that's not stretchy again!
Any success stories out there?!

High protein low carb seems to work for many here.
I am veggie, so going really high protein is hard for me.
And then some say cut out gluten, but I really cba.

My bigger issue is that Type 2 diabetes runs in the family, and tummy weight gain can cause that. I am on the border. Feel I will tip over into diabetes soon.

bournevilleismyfavourite · 04/02/2025 07:24

Mine is better. I lost a kilo, weight train, lots of ab work and eat loads of fermented food (I think this has helped).

awillothewispaclown · 04/02/2025 10:35

I think wheat and lactose do have an effect on me, so I'll be interested to see if the bloods show anything. Congrats on the weight loss @bournevilleismyfavourite, that's great - what kind of foods were/are you eating besides fermented?

Fresh ginger tea, teaspoon of fresh ground ginger in mug of hot as you can bear water, honey to make it ok.
Drink all of it, rub tummy button in clockwork direction, oestrogen upsets bile, hence digestion issue, gas both ends sorted, it really did work for me.

Lentilweaver · 04/02/2025 10:50

Been eating fermented foods and only veggies since the day I was born. Making no difference to the belly.

awillothewispaclown · 04/02/2025 22:10

I'm getting the feeling that I'm basically b*ggered and that it's leggings from here on in! 🙃

Hi yes I don’t eat pasta and as little bread as possible. I do drink milk though and yoghurt. I tend to have porridge with milk and nuts/seeds for breakfast then a salad/soup or sandwich and some fruit lunchtime then chicken or fish with vegetables and some carbs (sweet potato /grains) for dinner. I try not to snack too much but have some dark chocolate in the evening. I don’t drink alcohol and love kombucha! I did used to drink diet coke and stopped but have started that back again so need to knock it on the head as it’s shockingly unhealthy and will probably not help with bloating. I eat a lot of kimchi and fermented food. Love it!

That’s so annoying. Do you do heavy weights? I think that’s helped me. There are some vegan protein shakes that aren’t too processed. Do you eat eggs? I am 60kg and aim for at least 100g protein a day. You’re doing better than me as I still have some UPF. I think heavy weights have helped me. Also intermittent fasting. I have had to cut my calories down too, sadly.

I was exactly the same, the swelling of my stomach and abdomen was actually painful, my skin couldn’t stretch any more. Like yourself I had loads of tests, I’m lactose intolerant and coeliac YAY! 😖

My G.P recommend Optibac probiotic gummies, and I have a teaspoon of turmeric with hot water and honey. I’ve also changed my eating regime, I’ve adopted the intermittent fasting diet, works wonders and so easy.

Ive lost weight, my clothes fit so much better again. I now wish I hadn’t donated some of my jeans to charity, I’d be able to get in them now ☹️

Lentilweaver · 05/02/2025 08:25

I eat turmeric in my food daily ( Asian). Makes no difference. I suppose I should have food intolerances investigated. At the moment v hard to get a GP appointment.

@bournevilleismyfavourite I eat eggs daily and also Greek yoghurt, nuts, lentils, beans...Probably dont get anything like 100 gm though. Maybe 50- 60? I started lifting only in November and am not lifting really heavy yet. Will try to.

LonelyFooleightyfour · 05/02/2025 12:22

Have you tried incorporating probiotics in your diet? Yogurt, kimchi, kefir, and sauerkraut improve digestion and reduce bloating. Also, abdominal massage in gentle and circular motion in the direction of the large intestine manages gas and relieve pressure.

VaddaABeetch · 05/02/2025 14:10

Is it bloat or is it fat? At menopause fat redistributes from bum, hips & thighs to belly

GrumpyFrownFace · 05/02/2025 14:59

Wholefood plant based really helped me, belly shrank, and if I eat cheese (xmas etc) it starts coming back. Lost a stone as well.

littleblackcat247 · 05/02/2025 15:07

No bread or flour products- at all.

My middle balloons out for 24 hours otherwise.

awillothewispaclown · 06/02/2025 09:40

Thanks for your comments.... I'm going to lay off the wheat and dairy once I've had my blood tests next Monday and see if that makes a difference over a longer period (short-term it seems to)... and see what the bloods come back with. I feel like it's a case of trial and error (and hitting the weights more consistently!)
