Contraception on HRT

Hi I'm on continuous progesterone plus oestrogen gel. I don't have periods. Before I started this regimen I was on sequential HRT so don't know if my periods have stopped naturally or not. I'm 52. Do I need to use contraception?! Currently use condoms but bit of a pain. Should I follow the guidance which is use until 55 although if I'm not having periods at all could I actually get pregnant?

Yes you could get pregnant, even if not having periods.

Contraception until age 55 is recommended. The risk is lower the older you get as fertility declines but isn't considered 'safe' until 55+

I hear you, it's such a pain and feels a bit unnecessary at this age! OH has enquired about a vasectomy but with current NHS waiting lists I'll probably be 55 before he gets an appointment!

If you have a mirena coil installed this would double up as contraception as well as HRT. Otherwise contraception is advised up to 55.

Been there, done that, with a mirena and never again!!

Definitely not having Mirena again. But I guess I'll have to carry on a couple more years with the protection just to be safe. Thanks
