I'm 44.5 and have been experiencing symptoms of peri-menopause since July last year (just before turning 44). Main symptom has been extremely long periods (e.g. between 10 and 15 days of bleeds). Periods are still regular but the gaps in between are short.
I also experience night sweats where I am cold going to bed but wake up very wet with sweat and need frequent bedding changes.
I am on mirena and have been for 3 years (for previous heavy periods). I have small fibroids.
GP prescribed progesterone (medroxyprogesterone) for 3 months to "give me a break" from the long periods. I also have hypothyroid (and medication has been increased).
The progesterone doesn't seem to have made a difference (yet) but it's only been one month and I'm not sure whether it takes time.
I am fed up of being "constantly" bleeding and feel that it is impacting my relationship as well as stopping me from swimming (which I started a few years ago to help me cope with stress).
Is there something better I can ask for to stop these ridiculously long periods???
Thanks xx
