Anxiety running up to period

I’ve always suffered with anxiety but I’ve noticed the last few months my anxiety in the few days before my period and the first few days is getting worse. I thought it was because I had two teens and there always seemed to be a problem but this last month has been debilitating and I feel horrible. I’m 47 ( or 46 one of the other anyhow ) and I guess it could be the start of menopause.
does anyone else have this? I literally feel like I’ve been dug up some weeks and no energy and then the next week I can’t relax or sleep and am full of nerves.
I am on citalopram 20mg so don’t know if I should just up it.
I’ve got a doctors appointment in a few weeks but I’m not sure what they’ll suggest.

Increased PMT is sign of peri.
You might be far better off considering HRT rather than SSRIs. If you've already got anxiety or mood swings, it's likely to be hormonal at your age and HRT is the guidance rather than ADs.
It's best if you read about this and ask for what you want rather than expecting or hoping a GP is up to speed.

On your doctor's appointment, consider telling your mother's menopause symptoms and her other health issues. It helps your doctor in assessing your condition.
