Dull sense of smell

Reposting from chat
Around the time I hit menopause, my sense of smell suddenly lessened
I thought it might be congestion at first.. until 2 days ago I had a split second burst of normal which then disappeared.
Has anyone else experienced similar and did it return?
I may see gp if it's a common experience
I'd appreciate any thoughts

The opposite. So smell sensitive that DH having a shower would have me near hysterical because it made me feel ill, despite using his usual shower gel.
It took ages to find something I could tolerate. Other peoples perfumes make me want to scream as I find them so strong and nauseating. I hate going anywhere tbh as I can smell when peoples hair needs washing, their cloying fabric conditioner, perfume, exhaust fumes etc

Yeah my sense of smell went super sensitive. So I'd have weeks where I was sniffing everything suspiciously as everything smelled super strong or weird. Still get it occasionally.

Mine is dulled, like you I have the odd point where its more enhanced and I understand why the rest of the family hate the fish treats I give the dog that I can't normally smell!

@Seasidewalker
Exactly the same here!
My dog can smell his treats a million miles away!
I can't smell them at all.
I get my hopes up when I get a tiny glimpse.
I'd never heard anyone else with the same, so Thank you!

My sense of smell fluctuates, and I’d put it down to being a long lasting side effect from Covid or possibly a sinus issue but I have been peri/menopausal since noticing.

It can alter the smell of things so much that I suggested DP had been buying knock off perfume (not knickers off perfume thank you autocorrect!) as a new bottle didn’t, to my mind, smell anything like previous bottles.

I'm pretty sure mine is peri related as the time when I could smell more was at the point where I first started oestrogen and felt fab. As that dropped off the sense of smell went again.
