Disappearing eyebrows

Zoraflora · 08/01/2025 18:05

My eyebrows are literally disappearing. They have become very sparse and I now have patches where there is no hair at all.

They look like Ive randomly plucked bits in the middle. They look awful even when i try fill them in.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Im assuming this is a drop in hormones? Anything that has worked to bring them back? Too scared to try micro blading.

Mine are similar, I have wondered if it could be my thyroid but it's impossible to get a conversation with a Dr these days.

Pandersmum · 08/01/2025 18:07

Sadly I’m experiencing the same thing! No answers but you are not alone OP.

shellyleppard · 08/01/2025 18:10

I'm post menopausal and have under active thyroid......my eyebrows are definitely getting thinner as is my normal hair.

Zoraflora · 08/01/2025 18:10

Google tells me its the ends of eyebrows near the ear that are affected when its thyroid but Im wondering would it be worth getting bloods checked, although Im sure there would be more obvious symptoms?

@Zoraflora do you have any other symptoms?? If your thyroid under active you may feel cold, tired, poor appetite. Sex drive can also suffer.

Do you mind me asking how was your under active thyroid diagnosed? Did you have symptoms?

I’ve had the same thing, along with thinning hair at my temples. I recommend U.K. Lash for eyebrows and Feel supplements. I take the hair, menopause and collagen ones (promise I’m not on commision!)
You need to stick with all for 2-3 months but I’ve been impressed by the results (and I’m not one to get swept up in the marketing of ‘amazing results’ etc).

Bimblesalong · 08/01/2025 18:13

I’m on chemo and am losing mine. Prior to having treatment I had them microbladed with Karen Betts. You can’t tell I’ve lost most of them. Amazing! Find a good practitioner by recommendation if you can. So pleased I had mine done.

shellyleppard · 08/01/2025 18:16

@Zoraflora no worries happy to answer any questions. I had overactive thyroid for a number of years. Tried all treatments (tablets, radioactive iodine) but the doctor's couldn't control it. Surgery was the only option. Side effects.... under active thyroid!!! 😔

mikado1 · 08/01/2025 18:20

I thought mine were thinning and patchy and then I got them tinted. I couldn't believe they were actually there but white. It was amazing. I must do it again as it only lasts maybe 3 weeks. Beautician kindly told me you can DIY with a bottle from the chemist but I don't know if I'm brave.

Zoraflora · 08/01/2025 18:25

The only other thing Ive noticed is my eyes are very dry.

Have a thyroid blood test done. 💯 say that’s what it is.

Winterymix · 08/01/2025 18:27

Thinning eyebrows was one of my hypothyroid symptoms so might be worth a test if you have any other symptoms (fatigue, low mood - there are lots!). It's just a blood test.

Buzyizzy21 · 08/01/2025 18:29

The list is pretty endless for such a wee gland. It controls pretty much everything.
I’ve been on thyroxine for 13 years.
feel free to ask anything. 🙂

Same here!
I had my eyebrows tinted before Xmas & they were still there, just white hair!
Looks bloody weird now seeing them in their entirety after I'd been carefully drawing/shading them in for years.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/01/2025 18:38

Hypothyroidism is pretty common in women at about the menopause - I'm not sure if it's related or just something that happens at about the same age.

I can't remember if my eyebrows were affected, my main symptom was feeling a bit depressed but a fairly low dose of levothyroxine dealt with it.

Get the blood test!

Bimblesalong · 08/01/2025 18:48

Re the dry eye, try hycosan extra. I anoint my eyes before bed and occasionally have to do them in the night.

I second the thyroid testing btw!

Zoraflora · 08/01/2025 19:04

Thanks for very helpful replies Im going to get bloods done & book in for tint, I miss my brows.

You can put cold-pressed Castor oil on the affected area. It works well on me and it also helps my thinning hair.

Watervoles · 08/01/2025 19:10

I have heard of people having great results applying minoxidil to their eyebrows with a mascara wand. Haven't tried this myself though

WolfFoxHare · 08/01/2025 19:11

Mine are the same. I just draw them in and try not to think about it too much.

Rapidbrow - it's like a mascara wand but clear and you use it twice a day. Takes about 6-8 weeks to work. It does work. I've used it for years. You need to keep using it. I've had my thyroid checked and iron etc and no issues there.

Oblomov25 · 08/01/2025 20:33

Interesting. Maybe I should get my thyroid tested.
