Has anyone found that they are much more prone to bloating and windiness, especially after an evening meal? I've suddenly started to really struggle with digesting pulses, Brussels sprouts, and pasta, all of which were never previously a problem. I have to loosen my bra because I feel so bloated, and it affects my sleep.

Yes, in fact, I've never been right for 10yrs. Very sensitive. I'm on HRT and things are little better. To be fair, foods which are brown such as brown bread, granary bread, lentils, pulses, brown pasta create wind that causes agony. My hubby almost dragged me to A&E once it was so bad. I never ate them before peri started, never had ANY issues. Then constipation started and Dr said eat more fibre such as brown.... Did nothing for constipation, just wind pain so I don't eat them. 😪

I hate sprouts anyway so they won't ever be a issue!

Not those symptoms so much, but I've definitely found that my digestion has slowed the past couple of years (I'm currently in late-peri). I have to eat early in the evening, otherwise it lays heavily on me and I find it uncomfortable to sleep.

I used to have a cast iron gut and could eat anything . No more . I seem to live on Gaviscon / olemprozole ??. It's not fun

Hi op. I have suffered from this terribly since peri. Having been previously able to eat anything and enjoy it I'm reduced to a permanent cycle of gastro issues throughout the month. Nausea, diarrhoea, both make it hard to eat and then by the evening when the feelings calm and I eat I'm filled with gas and discomfort. It's a miserable existence! I'm on hrt and it's not helping.

Hi am currently experiencing this. Been to GP who has done an examination and a raft of bloods but all OK. Stomach discomfort, more of an ache than pain. Feel bloated and rubbish. On HRT which is helping with energy levels but nothing else. Not sure what to do next.

I have this off and on - silicolgel, s boulardii and probiotic bacteria seem to help

Jenstam · 05/01/2025 13:48

Ooh that's helpful, can you tell me which prebiotic you've used? There's so many!

I like to mix things up. You're looking for a broad range - just bacillus coagulans isn't enough. I like bio kult and if it's your first time splash out on the extra strong one to get you started.

Yes, on and off bloating, pain and wind, and I can't see any definite pattern at all in the foods that I'm eating, other than maybe yoghurt, but I stopped eating yoghurt and I still sometimes get it. It's not milk in general, and it's not gluten. It happens if I eat too many vegetables, but it happens when I don't eat too many vegetables as well! I get it when I'm stressed definitely, but it can also happen when I'm not stressed! I've been checked out for various things and nothing comes back. I wonder whether I'm eating too quickly. It's really annoying!

Thanks both. Interesting. Bloating wind pain yes! Not really pain here just discomfort. Had no period for 4 months and even did a pregnancy test but defo hormones slowing things down now. Feels like once my bloods were normal the GP wasn't interested. Might try the probiotics and see how it goes. Isn't it frustrating!
