I just want to feel better now

Just for clarity...my username is pretty old now... just like me.. well I'm nearly 44.

So it seems I have ADHD. Always v symptomatic but peri had sent it WILD. GP thinks I need to get peri under some kind of control first and then she will refer me.

Anyway I have all the symptoms. But anxiety and heart palpitations are particularly bad. Gp put me on desogestrel (mini pill) while on the waiting list for mirena. When that's in i can start on patches. The waiting list for mirena has been months longer than expected and I don't think the desogestrel is helping at all. I'm very anxious and down and the cyclic moods and palpitations seem to be unaffected.

I am hoping the estrogen patches will be a golden arrow when I get there but I'm getting desperate in the mean time.

I'm also suffering folate deficiency anemia.

I'm already taking the pill and folate tablets daily. I'm trying to add a generic magnesium into the mix... realistically how many pills and supplements can you take in a day? What is normal?

I will try most things at this point but I don't want to be doing more harm than good.

Is the Mirena for birth control? The alternative is taking progesterone in tablet form (utrogestan) which means you could start HRT straight away. I also had heart palpitations and anxiety which went away pretty much immediately once I started HRT.

Thank you. That gives me hope.

I thought the mirena was the best options as I have v heavy periods. And my memory is really poor so not having to think about it is ideal.

When I went to the doc she thought I would get it fitted in a couple of weeks but that was the end of October...then it was "this month" then it was next week now it's 15th January

It seems my body is currently trying to force a period despite the desogestrel and it's putting me into panic attack mode.

Do some reading around the benefits of the mirena. Didn't do my MH many favors when I took it some years ago..

Like the pp mentioned, more often these days, women are being prescribed bioidentical hormones, which are often better tolerated and are easy to start/stop.

Maybe speak to your GP again. I'm on progesterone only cream (which I buy privately online) and it's eased most of my peri symptoms.

Thank you. I def think the lack of oestrogen is the main problem. I have massive flares of symptoms around ovulation and when my period comes on. I think the gp thought that the pop would even that out and it worked for about a month and now it's all back with a vengeance.

Lack of estrogen is almost identical to lack of progesterone - so worth looking at the difference.

Since I started progesterone my periods have halved in duration and severity and I no longer have any pain (used to be in bed for 2 days a month), no sore boobs etc. been a real eye opener.

Just get the progesterone on tablet form and don't cycle. Take it continuously and add in the patches starting away, and go gradually with them.

That's the magic bullet for you, stops the bleeding, stops the cycles and you don't have the stress of the coil, insertion and waiting times.

Thing is if you hate the coil it can take an age to have it removed so could be another 6+ month of symptoms.

I'm the same age but the other way. I've got my adhd assessment Feb.

If you do Right To Choose its about 4 months.

I'm also looking at mounjaro so I'm going from no meds (apart from magnesium) to potentially lots. The gp blames it all on my weight...
