Taking 300mg of utrogestan

I always get my period on day 10 of taking utrogestan (200mg for 12 days a month). It is really annoying as it seems to prolong my period as I don't really bleed properly until I stop taking it.

I am wondering if there is any reason why shouldn't trying increasing the dose to 300mg to see it this delays my period until after I stop the utrogestan? I am on 50mg everel patches.

You've got another thread going on a similar topic.

Maybe you need a scan? You've been using a 75mcg patch. The latest advice on this from the BMS is that women who bleed at unexpected times increase the Utrogestan dose to 300mgs.

It could also be your own cycle/ period if you're not post menopause.

However, you should consider a scan just to see what's going on.
If you do have one, it's important to try to schedule it for straight after a bleed otherwise it's not telling you anything. I appreciate this is harder with an NHS appt but one way to do it is to bring your cycle forward if necessary or lengthen it so your scan is around day 5-7 when your bleed is finished.

Many thanks. I did 2 separate threads as I think they are different issues and I didn't want to confuse them. I have been getting my period on day 10 of utrogestan since starting hrt 3 years ago. The spotting (I mentioned in my other thread) has only started in the last month or so since reducing my oestrogen dose.

I think you are correct, I will ask my gp for a scan just to get things checked out. In the meantime though do you think I am OK trialling 300mg 12 daÿs a month whilst waiting for the scan? I am due to start my utrogestan today so could give it a try.

Also what is the reason for having the scan post bleed? Does it just make things easier to see?
