Double patch

I was doing ok on HRT patch for a while now but noticed that mild symptoms come and go again recently. Mostly they were the odd hot flashes but this morning I woke up with an old familiar period pain I used to suffer from for years. It can get so severe and is shooting down my thigh as I write this (sometimes my left side and sometimes the right).

My immediate thoughts were - right, I'm starving out of hormones and a patch won't be enough anymore, but what if I stick another one as a booster?

Did anyone tried this double patching before? Is it a good idea? It won't be a long-term solution as I booked to see an HRT specialist in the new year.

Can you explain a bit more- what type and dose of patch are you on now?
Is it sequential where you have a withdrawal bleed? Are you expecting that now on the cycle?

You shouldn' t be getting period pains anyway unless you're using HRT that gives a withdrawal bleed.

Doubling your patch isn't the answer if it's a withdrawal bleed that's about to happen because period pains don't happen because of lack of hormones.

What patch are you on? Is it sequi or conti?
If you are on conti and you double up you'll be doubling up on progesterone also which may not be ideal.

You shouldn't just cut them in half either as some patches can and some can not be treated like this

Patches come in different doses so ultimately you could be prescribed a smaller estrogen only patch to add to your current patch but if you can tolerate it can you wait until your appointment?

Ask the GP to book you in for a blood test now so you can check oestrogen levels before your NY appointment.

I wouldn't double up on patches though. Any reason why you can't get GP to address this now?
