Has this happened to anyone else? It's my first time...I'm going through peri and this month I'm having new and random symptoms...and as of yesterday if I drink some herbal teas...but not all, the tea tastes incredibly bitter...

Yes I got this. I wasn't sure if it was because I was just getting older, but along with other peri weirdness - (like smelling odd smells) - familiar tastes were just off.

Did you have it all the time or just during pms? Thanks ☺️

Worse at different times of the month. Still get it now I'm menopausal sometimes. I went to the dentist, GP etc and eventually worked out it was linked to periods (which were all over the place.).

Thank you, yeah, I'm thinking of waiting till I get my period and if it magically goes (like all my other pmt symptoms) then I'll put it down to hormones, if not, l'll have to investigate further

I had this just before my period last week. It was a horrible sort of metallic taste, but I thought it was due to my oral health being bed again (I've had horrid gingivitis at the start of perimenopause a few years ago that gave me a weird metallic off taste).

I'm guessing it's a similar thing to what some people get in pregnancy - i never had that symptom but it is bloody annoying now lol 😆

Luckily mine seems to have gone now I'm mid-cycle, but no doubt it'll come back again in a couple of weeks! 😕😳😖😅

Just wondering how old you are? Do you have any other symptoms?

40...and sore boobs, mood swings, low energy...normal crap at this time of the month...why, what are you thinking?

Sounds like pregnancy to me!

TheCoolOliveBalonz · 26/11/2024 19:20

I assume it mimics pregnancy in that your hormones are swinging all over the place in both? I have bad tastes on and off in peri, as I did in pregnancy. Not an expert but I'm not surprised by this symptom.

Have a pregnancy test. It's more likely at 40 than the menopause.

I had a bad taste in my mouth for 6 months this year, from Jan to June it was awful, like youve had face moisturiser on your lips then licked them. I also had lots of digestive issues.

I'm 43, added with other anxiety symptoms GP suggested a trial of HRT but I just wasn't convinced it was all peri. Blood tests showed hormones were ok but that I was low in Vitamin D. Lower limit is 50 I was 42, so not massively low but GP said 75 was a good place to be.

I started supplements, changed my diet, reduced dairy, gluten and alcohol, upped things like fruit, veg, nuts (not massively but more than I was eating) and the taste went over a matter of weeks. I still have digestive issues but they are nowhere near as bad as it was. I've recently started on Kefir drinks and yogurts as nausea seemed to be a new symptom but that's now eased too. Last check in October vitamin D was still only at the 45 mark but admittedly I stopped taking during August and September. So back on them now too.

Just a thought due to your age and the winter months, could be low vitamin D. Also heard low B12 can cause these issues too.

Thank you so much, this is super useful...I restarted taking cod liver oil in the last couple of days...
And haven't felt like drinking ( I usually have half a glass of wine on an evening but I've been off it...)
Either way, I came back here to say I go my period and the taste issues went...so, thankfully not pregnant...let's see what happens next month...
