Please help.anyone I'm really suffering from severe mental health and am post menopausal. 16 months no period and was thinking of going on hrt but have heard so much negative information about it and I'm scared.

I have taken menopause supplements but nothing is helping and I'm feeling vary suicidal.
Please help I will be very grateful 🙏

@HugsandsmilesI was where you are this time last year. HRT has genuinely saved my life. Have never felt better. Also, I now swim every day. Are you able to call your GP first thing and arrange an emergency appointment? I promise you that it will get better. I thought I would never recover. Had to take a year off work but am back and so much calmer. You need to speak to your GP asap. For every person who is against HRT, there are several for whom it really works.

i need to sleep now as have a very early start. Hold on in there. Others will be along soon. Call the GP first thing.

Hi OP. I think you should talk to your GP as soon as possible. I’m not sure HRT is the optimal treatment if you’re feeling suicidal.

I’m not sure what negative info you’ve heard, but I’ve found HRT to be straightforward and immediately helpful with my symptoms, so please don’t be deterred if this is part of the solution for you. But GP first …

Hello HugsandSmiles, we are really sorry to hear you are feeling this way.
We hope you don't mind, but when these threads are flagged up to us we usually add a link to our Mental Health resources. You can also go to the Samaritans website or email them on [email protected]. Support from other Mumsnetters is great and we really hope you will be able to take some comfort from your fellow posters, but as other MNers will tell you, it's really a good idea to seek RL help and support as well.

Hi all thank you for your messages and all your support. I will make an appointment with my GP tomorrow and will request hrt. I am really worried about it causing blood clots and breast cancer that's all. I will really be grateful for all your help and support. God bless you all 🙏

When you're on hrt and feeling balanced you won't be ruminating on this negative. Hrt has saved me! I have joy and energy again. I laugh!! Please advocate for yourself and fight to get the hrt.

Hi, to echo the others, HRT has made a huge difference to me and GP was happy to trial it instead of anti-depressants.

Movinghouseatlast · 25/11/2024 22:46

HRT saved my life. The reality is there is not a huge risk of breast cancer- that is old debunked research.

Good luck at the GP. Ask for an appointment with one that knows about menopause.

My GP talked me through the risks and how they compare with other things and for me any possible risks were far outweighed by the chance of getting something close to my mind back.

It wasn’t an immediate’cure’ for me - I had to adjust the dose but it’s definitely helped. I’m struggling with my mood at the moment again but it’s life events rather than hormones.

Hang in there. Exercise is good. I need to do more of that!!
