Can periods just suddenly stop?

I'm 46. My periods have always been regular as clockwork. My last was one week early and then nothing at all for 11 weeks now. I'm definitely not pregnant but have no other menopause symptoms. Do periods just stop suddenly like that?

Yes but sadly its more likely it will return at some point, at your age. Do speak to the GP about it

Mine did. I was 53 though.

I had exactly this, 10 days early period rhen nothing since and am on about 10
weeks. I have started hrt 3 weeks ago though so I’m assuming I’ll get some sort of bleed when I stop the progesterone.

I've had a few missed periods but they usually show up again I'm 49

mitogoshigg · 18/11/2024 21:53

Yes but they can also have a temporary hiatus. I've gone 5 months then back with avengence, more typically they are every 10-12 weeks now with just a little spotting in between

This was my menopause. About a year or so of very heavy, very regular periods every four weeks, then Bang! no more ever. I was 50. It did coincide with a huge shock, which I'm sure had bodily effects.

Seeline · 18/11/2024 22:04

Mine just got further apart. I eventually had two 9-month gaps, and then a couple in between. I eventually finished at 55.

Sewaccidentprone · 18/11/2024 22:05

Mine just stopped. I was 49. Nothing since that point unusually

BuzzieLittleBee · 18/11/2024 22:05

Mine were pretty regular (and getting closer together, and consistently heavy) and then there was nothing for over 6 months. I was constantly on edge, assuming it would start any day. Then, annoyingly, when I went on holiday I had a 10 day period. Since then they have just been sporadic. No rhyme nor reason to it.

Apart from being constantly prepared 'just in case', it was so nice not having a period for 6 months. Hoping it doesn't drag on in this fashion for years.

Ladyof2024 · 18/11/2024 22:12

Mine did, at 45.

MoonWoman69 · 18/11/2024 22:28

Mine stopped suddenly at 48... Nothing for a year, to the day. Then a massive, flooding all the time, huge clots, the works, for 7 days. Then nothing since! I'm 55 now. Don't go unprepared, always carry sanitary products until you're sure!

Thanks everyone. I admit I feel like I'm constantly on edge just waiting for it. It would be nice if that was it now though!
