How much oestrogel do you use? I was using four pumps, have gone to 3.5 as someone said that’s a bit much!

I’m 45 and started on 1 pump of oestrogel when I was 43, and have gradually - since then - gone up to 4 pumps. (I’m perimenopausal).

I was telling my friend who is also taking oestrogel and she said “wow 4 is a lot!”

Is it?

Since then, which was about 2 weeks ago, I have reduced down to 3.5 and have no idea if this is related, but haven’t been sleeping that well and have had an early but light period (HRT had made my periods reasonably regular again).

Is 4 pumps a high dose?

How much do you all take? What does it feel like when you take “too much?

I’ve stuck at 2 pumps. I think 4 is the maximum. What were you prescribed?

I think it’s on the higher end, but it’s not too much. My dr told me to play around with any amount between 2-4 until I felt better. I settled on 3 but I still think 4 is right for some.

I was told to start with 1, and 4 is the max. My GP knows I was taking 4.

I suppose my strange worry is: if I’m taking 4 now and I’m 45, what will I need in the years to come as menopause gets closer?!

I also have no idea if it’s too much. I have an anxiety disorder anyway - so I don’t feel more or less nervy etc. Before starting HRT I was waking up nervous every morning for no reason - that’s gone now, but I still am always a little on edge.

Does anyone know what too much oestrogel feels like?

I've been on 4 all year then added another 1 in last night as had symptoms! I think I'll drop it back down having read this. I'm early 50s. Got a GP appointment next Friday to review so I will discuss them. Issue is I don't think I'm absorbing well.

Lovemybunnies · 14/11/2024 06:56

I’m on the equivalent of 7. I could barely function on 4 and was struggling to work. I can now work full time and exercise when I get home.

I personally don’t see HRT as a cure all, so I take supplements as well, like magnesium glycinate for sleep.
If you want to reduce the gel, maybe look at supplements for your symptoms

I don't think you can assume that everyone absorbs the gel in the same way so comparing number of pumps becomes slightly meaningless.

My friend had extensive tests to establish she wasn't absorbing anything from gels or patches and ended up paying for injections.
