Perimenopause? And rage.

I'm 44, and have estrogen pessaries to manage UTIs I was getting regularly for the last year and it has really helped - none since I started this in May.

However I'm really not sure if it's time to ask for full HRT so I'm looking for some a advice or support.

My sweat STINKS, hair is falling out and breaking, my memory is appalling - I'm forgetting entire conversations a few hours later and my work is absolutely all over the place and my god, the RAGE....

I'm going from zero to so furious I'm going to get in trouble soon, especially in the car. I'm a calm and moderated person normally. I've done front line policing, bar work, door work and always been able to manage my feelings and my temper, but right now the slightest thing (like someone not letting me in when roads merge as an example from a few weeks ago) is making me so angry I am shouting things I would never usually say (even if I thought them) and I'm left shaking with adrenaline and in a fury for an hour afterwards. When it happens I'm so angry I can't think clearly. This is not normal.

My periods are regular but closer together this last year so 26 day cycle not 30 any more, but I also have a Mirena coil.

Any words of advice? I don't want to go to prison, I need a security clearance for work! 😂

Definitely time for HRT

FloralGums · 10/11/2024 19:15

I definitely got the rage with peri menopause. I would get angry over things, much more so than before the menopause. I would really get worked up and dwell over things too.
HRT definitely helped with the rages.

Wash with bar soap rather than shower gel. Life changing. I’m no longer constantly spraying deodorant.
My rage reduce a lot on HRT, which I started after a hysterectomy.
My work is a struggle, I live in fear of someone bringing it up but my performance review this year was, to my surprise, fantastic.

JurassicPark4Eva · 10/11/2024 19:24

I'm using bar soap, it does clear the smell but I hate the smell of myself at night it's just so awful.

I'll send an e-consult in the morning I think, I'm a shadow of myself.

I presume you've had blood tests, checking things like thyroid function. If you haven't, please do talk to your GP about these symptoms. All the best to you.

JurassicPark4Eva · 10/11/2024 20:14

Thyroid was checked about a year ago I think, but seems to be fine. I'm pretty sure it's hormonal tbh, but don't know when to ask for help.

Please come back and update. Rage is one of my symptoms. And would love to know what they suggest

JurassicPark4Eva · 15/11/2024 21:44

I've got a video call with the GP booked for Monday morning, so I'll see what they say!

@JurassicPark4Eva - apologies for resurrecting an old thread but how are things now? I’m absolutely raging for no reason and that’s making me rage even more! Did HRT help at all?

JurassicPark4Eva · 25/03/2025 19:46

Hello! So I've been on topical HRT for two months now. The GP I saw by video prescribed me beta blockers 🙄 and suggested my coil was the problem.

I had a follow up appointment with the menopause GP at my practice and she as amazing. Agreed the coil was a red herring, discussed my HRT options and recommended this.

Tbh, I'm shite at using it and I'm going to ask for pills because I'm much better at that. However, I've not had a rage session in two months. Of course DH has also been deployed (/= correlation 😂)...

But I'm not pouring with sweat, it's not as stinky when I do sweat, I feel much cleaner. I'm having a few hot flashes which I want to discuss with her at the review in a week or two as I'm concerned whether it's actually rosacea or not.

Periods are actually all over the shop but still light enough not to piss me off - I checked my diaries and actually they've been off for about two years, I just hadn't realised.

Still no UTIs since starting the vaginal pessaries but then I've had no sex for the last two months either...

In short - give it a go. Things are settling down well here!

OP I had this! I now use a deodorant bar called fussy. If I use this no smell all day.
