I'm in perimenopause and on hrt.

Yep, not on HRT as trying to avoid as long as possible but my periods either last 2-3 weeks, just a few days, 2 in a month, stop/start or just constant spotting.

Been going on about 18 months 😔

Dawn1331 · 04/11/2024 09:28

@Megifer this sounds like me!!! It's very frustrating x

Hadn't had a period for 5 months, then got one 7th Oct, which wasn't too bad, completely bearable. Now having another period and it's been hellish since Saturday. Quite disgusting to be honest. Brown blood at the start, now bright red. The lining is slower to shed at the start.

Yes - very common with hormones all over the place at this time. Periods can be lighter, heavier, shorter, longer, further apart or closer together. Mine got massively heavy one month then I might miss the next month. I used a moon cup and a large pad.
I had a Mirena coil put in which knocked them on the head. MY GP said at the time that I wouldn't know when periods would have stopped naturally though.
if you have general menopause symptoms you feel you need support with, HRT can help - It's personal choice of course - and taking it sequentially in perimenopause can give a more consistent monthly withdrawal bleed

@CreationNat1on @over50andfab I'm just under prepared and always worried something is wrong.

Yes gutted end of 2022 it would be over in half day, now it is between 4-7 days sometimes 9.

I had a scan where ovulation was said to be high and both ovaries seen for a first time in approx 5 years but period didn’t make it to full-cycle.

Just find it a head f as what stops this in 2 months time being different in the other way.

Is this the next 8 years.

My Mum had a novel idea I should track my next period as if I don’t have the last 5 years worth.

I’ve tried the so called ‘miracle coil’ aka as unruly teenager settles when it wants and would now shut anyone down as no way do I want to be visiting a miscarriage ward middle of the night when dealing with the fall out/infection but that’s me. For some women yes it stops periods but not everyone is guaranteed this in any such way.

I thought HRT regulated periods??

Dawn1331 · 07/11/2024 05:23

@2024onwardsandup it can but I think my natural cycle is still trying to break through and hormone levels fluctuate. It's an absolute head wrecker x

This is me. I have bled 30 out of the last 38 days. Yes, I'm 49, in peri, but for the last 3 years my periods were getting further and further apart. Sometimes months apart. I had hoped to be getting close to the end at this point to be honest.

I feel exhausted now at this stage so think I may be anaemic from it all but reluctant to take iron. I'm not on hrt as it didn't suit me unfortunately.

I had a smear test in April and that came back fine (though I know they only checked it for HPV) so I'm hoping it's not anything to be anxious about, just the joys of hormonal imbalance. But if it goes on much longer I might see if I can get a gp appointment (ha, some chance!!!)

@user1471526265 thank you for sharing. We're so under prepared for it all and we don't know the full set of symptoms which is scary.
I hate feeling adrift and its almost like we feel silly talking hcp.
At least we're all in the same boat and can support each other x
