When to start HRT

I'm 43y and believe I'm suffering perimenopause symptoms. But I also have anxiety and depression so unsure if this is a contributing factor. My symptoms include horrendous night sweats, aching joints, poor sleep, anxiety, fatigue, bleeding between periods.

Is it worth discussing HRT with the GP?

Yes definitely worth talking to them about it.

GertrudeGarbo · 03/11/2024 22:36

Absolutely. GP will certainly want to investigate bleeding between periods. Is the anxiety and depression recent or historical?

Ask for tests and scans if you can.

It seemed a saviour but now left wondering if being put on hrt was all some masking of a problem recently after finding out I’m still ovulating it means I’m producing my own estrogen and so have I’ve been taking double in producing an unusually thin to a now thick lining. Could really do without the need for a yearly hysteroscopy costing the nhs no doubt money and both of our time, (and when we’ve been here before!) all because some tests weren’t considered important at first and this seems to do seems to vary up and down the country.

Yes. Definitely. I'm seeing a psychiatrist for my HRT.
So far so good.
Highly recommend

I've started on progesterone only. After she did some blood tests

Geneticsbunny · 04/11/2024 07:58

Start them now. You will know very quickly if the symptoms are peri or not but they sound a lot like they are.

herewegoagogo · 04/11/2024 08:12

Thanks everyone. I've had the bleeding between periods checked (dreaded hystocopy and tests) and nothing sinister. The anxiety and depression are historical and I'm treated for them but they seem out of control.

I'll make an appointment and see what they say.
