can someone please help me, there's only me & my 13yr old son so ive no one else to turn to
im 53yrs old, at 47 i had the marina coil fitted to stop my periods, i spotted for a year or so afterwards, then in the last 3 years i put on a lot of weight i went up to 23 stone from around 18 stone, ive always been big (please dont judge me).. Ive been dieting last 8 weeks & have lost 2 & a half stone & last night i felt bloated & tender in my tummy & this morning i am spotting light pinkish/brownish not heavy, only when i wipe.
I honestly thought i had finished my periods? & gone through the menopause? if not could my weightloss re-start my periods again if i havnt gone through menopause. im sick with worrying fearing the worst :(

Don't panic, your mirena has probably "run out" and your body is confused. The majority of unscheduled bleeding around this age isn't anything sinister, it's just our hormones being allover the place.

Male a GP appointment, they'll potentially refer you on the urgent gynae pathway so that you are seen quickly. The referral will likely say quiet cancer but it's a way of getting that urgent referral so don't panic about that, it's good as it gets you seen quickly.

Did I mention don't panic? 😀🤗💐xx

oh thank you so much for your reply, i cant stop crying i get very frightened, in april they found a lump in my breast & was rushed through, thank god it was just a glandular thing they said & is NOT cancer.
I didnt know the coil can run out? i thought it was just a tool that stopped me getting pregnant? stupid question but what does it run out of please?

Hi there. The Mirena can become a little less effective over time, and this can cause spotting.

After four years, it's recommended to get a replacement. They can run out of the synthetic progesterone which they've been slowly releasing.

Do go and see your doctor. I'm sure they'll reassure you.

They'll examine you because of the spotting and they'll take your Mirena out and replace it immediately.

Also losing weight releases hormones too causing periods. And unexpected pregnancy

Also, well done on your weightloss!

Sorry should say "query cancer" not quiet cancer - the forum isn't giving me a modify option.
