Bleeding on continuous HRT

Hi, I’ve been on HRT for just over 18 months now. I’m 46.

Since being on it I’ve had intermittent bleeding. I had the bleeding checked out with an ultrasound (to check that my uterine lining wasn’t too thick/no other reasons for it) and all was fine. The menopause GP put me on continuous HRT (gel and 2 Utrogestan pills per night) and that’s stopped it for a bit. It then started again! I’m bleeding lightly now every 2 weeks or so!! I also take a small dose of testosterone every day but have been having that for just over a year.

I’m obviously booking another GP appointment but does anyone have any experience of this? I’m terrified I might get taken off HRT and my life was utterly miserable before I started it.

I can live with the bleeding more than I can cope with life without HRT!

Thanks in advance for any answers.

I had random bleeding for a year to 18 months after going on continuous. Have also been checked and all was fine. Consultant said I am likely still making some of my own hormones intermittently and the slightest change can trigger bleeding. I was getting it almost fortnightly for quite a while. At the time I was on a 100 patch (highest licensed dose) plus a pump of gel (off licence), and 2 utrogestan every day. I tried the utrogestan vaginally but it made no difference, though apparently sometimes it does. I took myself off the pump of gel and things settled down after a few months. Like you I could live with the bleeding but not without HRT. They tried to take me off the HRT when I was hospitalised for pneumonia because they try to take you off everything they can in that hospital, but I kicked up a royal fuss because I had only recently stabilised and really did not want to go back to the bleeds. They relented in the end and all has been fine. Wishing you well. At 46 I suspect you are still making some of your own hormones and that is upsetting the apple cart. My bleeding was going on well into may 50s

Hi I’ve been in continuous hrt for a year, was fine with no bleeds for 5 months, then on off bleeds since, been moved to gel 2 pumps and utrogeston 100, had full on period month with breast tenderness. Now 3 weeks later having period again. Had scan and all ok. Should I go down to 1 pump maybe . Confused and fed up
