Where is my period?

Hi, for background I’m 46 and have a copper IUD. My periods have been fairly regular with a 22-24 day cycle for the last few years. Absolutely no symptoms of perimenopause otherwise.
My period is now 17 days late.
3 pregnancy tests are negative.
My coil has become slightly displaced and I’ve just had an ultrasound to check it- it’s sitting v low in the uterus. Definitely not pregnant on the scan!
I feel fine, no obvious hormonal symptoms.
Obviously I’ll go back to my GP to sort the coil out etc but any ideas as to what’s happening? This is the longest I’ve been without a period since pregnancy!

Hi @FaintlyMacabre …well you’ve posted this on the meno board and you are 46, so there’s every chance peri is what’s happening! It’s great you have no other symptoms and I hope it stays like that for you.

When you put it like that it’s kind of obvious 😂 but is it normal to go from completely regular periods to a 2 week delay (or more, no idea what the gap will be yet) without any other symptoms?

Was for me!! Those were my first noticeable symptoms, only I put it down to other 'stuff.' Then about a year later the hot flushes and night sweats started. On HRT and it's fixed those and a whole raft of other symptoms which I hadn't realised were peri, like crap sleep, walking early, aches and pains to name a few! I'm 43 btw and started HRT 42. My periods started to become irregular age 39.

My first symptom of perimenopause was skipping a period for a whole month. I was 40. I think this is a fairly common symptom of menopause and is a sign to start HRT!

Yes one day they just start going to 6 weeks, but not always. Then missing a month, but not always. Then missing a few month. Then coming back as you think it's all over, then fucking off again.

This has happened to me a couple of times in the last 20 or so years. Once I reckoned it was down to delayed ovulation because I'd been ill around that time. The other time I've no idea why.

I'm now 52 and periods still semi regular with the odd long or shortish cycle but comparing to when-records-began (20s) not an especially dramatic change.

It could definitely be menopause related, but sometimes our bodies just feel like messing with us I reckon.

Thanks all, I’ll discuss it with my GP, there’s a family history of osteoporosis so interested in HRT for prevention.
I've also bought a pack of pregnancy tests so I can check every so often that a late period doesn’t actually mean something else entirely!
And I’ve just found out I’m really iron deficient so at least less frequent periods will help with that.
