Testosterone turning me into Pete

stinkingbishop · 11/10/2024 15:16

Have been on testogel for 9 months. It's given me back my brain, and oomph. However, over the past two months, the tops of my legs, and now forearms, are sprouting lots of very male looking, thick, dark, curly, mega long hair. Basically I have arm pubes.

I don't know what to do. I feel like I should care less about how I look than how I am, but the arm hair in particular is mortifying. At least it's jumper season!

If I decide to continue, would you bleach or wax or use cream or...?

I daren't look at my back. Clinic review next week so shall ask if there's a middle ground!

If this isn’t a wind up, I would suggest a visit to your GP and get a testosterone test. Your testosterone levels could be significantly higher than is healthy for a female.

How long does a sachet last?

Does your behaviour change when there is a full moon?

stinkingbishop · 11/10/2024 15:40

Title should have said Pete Sampras. And no it's not a wind-up, would that it were. I know - obviously - this is one of the risks with testosterone. Review next week, and I'll get the results of my blood test at that. But assuming they're OK, and I therefore have to make a decision, I just want to be able to weigh everything up. So was trying to see if anyone else had successfully navigated it and managed the hair situation.

Each sachet lasts about a week - small pea-sized amount.

I’m naturally a hairy armed gal. Thick, long and black. I have shaved them since I was 14.

CLEO42 · 11/10/2024 16:20

My T levels were over the female range after the first 3 months (no arm pubes or other symptoms though) so my Meno specialist advised me to take it every other day. I’m still getting the benefits even though I’ve reduced the dose

offyoujollywelltrot · 11/10/2024 16:27

Jolen bleach might help? Before I started HRT, my body hair went absolutely OFF THE CHARTS, I swear I could braid my armpit hair. I felt like I was turning into a werewolf.

W0tnow · 11/10/2024 18:04

@stinkingbishop I’ve been on HRT for a while, but still my brain fog, and general just…I don’t know, zest for life? motivation? is at rock bottom. Don’t get me started on the insomnia. I’m going to ask about testosterone at my next appointment.

I am genuinely excited to hear that it has helped your kick your brain and motivation into gear. How long did it take?

in answer to your question, I’d use one of those epilator thingies.

Have you had blood pressure checked since starting testosterone?

stinkingbishop · 11/10/2024 20:37

@W0tnow worked quickly, couple of weeks. There may be some placebo, but. Don't get me wrong, I still need to list the bejesus out of life, but I'm getting life done. The cognitive overwhelm has largely gone. And I'm a bit more, well, ballsy. Had lost my confidence. Not aggro now, but assertive eg proactively asked for, and got, a payrise, and not (so much) plagued by imposter syndrome public speaking.

But, is it worth arm pubes, is the question!

Re BP - checking next week but has been fine to date?

Ok I’ve just started Androfeme but coincidentally (?) my bp has shot up
but already feel less anxious and sleep better.

Keenovay · 15/10/2024 18:56

What dosage are you on @stinkingbishop, just out of interest? I have been applying 10mg Testogel every second day (2% concentration) for around the same period as you, unfortunately with zero effect on my libido/energy. Just some hair loss (head) and hair gain (inner thighs - which I now have to shave). I stopped applying to my inner thighs and switched to my bare inner forearms and haven't had any hair growth there.

A normal dose around 5 mg daily. An eighth of a 40.5 mg sachet.

So, 10 mg every other day amounts to the same thing.

Epilate (cheap) or light therapy (expensive)
