Could this be peri menopause?

I'm currently waiting for my period to start. I've had all of the signs, horrendous bloating and wind, some leg cramps off and on for the last few days. I've also had some spotting when I wipe which has gone now. Before anyone says it, zero chance of pregnancy. I'm on day 28 which is my usual day it starts but it just doesn't seem to be coming as usually when I've had spotting before my period it usually follows through but even that's stopped! I usually have a 28 day cycle and my period came at day 23 last month which was a surprise. I always track it and looking back it also came at day 23 earlier in the year. I'm 42 in 2 months so could this be the start of peri? I'm always quite conscious to check these things as sadly my sister died from ovarian cancer at age 44 and it was all very sudden. I don't seem to have any symptoms that would be a strong indicator if concer for that.

My peri menopause started with missing periods, say 2 in the first year, then 3 or 4 second year, I still had normal period symptoms on missing months, which for me was migraines. Final period was at 51. Do you know what age your mother started going through the menopause, as this may indicate what age you may start.

My Mum had a hysterectomy after I was born and she was adopted so I have very little to go on in terms of menopause indication. I guess that's why I feel a bit lost with it and in making sure I'm not missing anything that could indicate a concern, especially with my sister having had cancer.
