Tendonitis

I have tendonitis in my achilles tendons, both sides coinciding with menopause. I do strap them for support which helps a bit but can anyone recommend any vitamins or supplements that could ease the discomfort as it can get really painful?

I feel your pain. Achilles tendonitis is horrible. I have been suffering for 4 years in my left foot and for 8 months in my right. Unfortunately I don’t think any vitamins or supplements will help, but I do take bone broth everyday as it contains collagen which helps strengthen tendons. We lose collagen as we age especially after menopause. I would ask your GP to refer you for physiotherapy as strengthening and stretching is vital. I am under the hospital for possible surgery to my Achilles and the consultant said he advises his patients to take up yoga, as this helps with stretching the muscles. I did start yoga and it did help after a while, but after I had a total hysterectomy and my overies removed last year, straight into menopause and the Achilles pain has come back with a vengeance.

Exercises were the only thing that helped for me - the physio had me go up on my toes and hold, then down again, in sets of ten, and then another exercise with me dropping my heels down with my toes on a step, in sets of 10, twice a day. It took a few weeks but it did stretch out the tendons and now every time I feel they are starting to tighten up I start the exercises again to get them back to normal. Sympathies, OP, it's so painful. I hope you feel better soon.
