Period after nothing for 9 months

Whatfreshhellisthis2 · 27/09/2024 23:40

I had blood tests which showed I was post menopause.

but I’ve now had my period. It’s been 9 months since I had a period.

Ive read this might be a problem after menopause, but it hasn’t been a full year without periods so wondering if this is just normal?

has anyone else experienced this?

If you’ve not gone 12 months without a period, you’re not post menopause. No matter what any blood test says.

@DustyLee123 thanks. I’m going to go to GP on Monday to find out what the issue is

I had this. My period were perfectly regular every 28-29 days until I was 54. They then stopped for 9 months when I then had another perfectly normal and final period.
After that I've never had another and am perfectly fine.

You don't need to see a GP over this. It's incredibly common @Whatfreshhellisthis2
You're peri menopausal - still!

Menopause tests even done drawing a lot of blood are completely unreliable in peri (and - sorry- the ones sold over the counter are a waste of money.) NICE menopause guidance says such tests shouldn't be used on women over 45 who are expected to be in peri.

I've my own experience of this when I had a blood test (not for menopause itself) and it showed I was post meno. I wasn't - for another 18 months.

Something similar happened to me. I am in my early fifties, I was in peri for a few years, then no period for 12 months. Brain fog, anxiety, hot flashes. I was medically post menopausal. I started HRT patches in the autumn then suddenly last November I had a big bleed, and again this month, in January.

My doctor is running tests but I think I know what it is: oxytocin!

I started a new relationship last year. We see each other once a month and the periods have coincided with when we've spent time together. It's like my body wants to make babies again (even if my brain really does not...)

My doctor says the bleeding is unrelated to sex, but I'm not so sure. I was reading a blog by the menopause adviser Eileen Durward, "4 reasons your periods can come back" and number 4 was "falling in love". Love and sex boost oxytocin, and she suggests this can bring periods back. I don't know whether there have been studies into this, but there's still a lot we don't know. Meanwhile I'm waiting for the test results with fingers crossed.
