I am 46 and experiencing a range of issues but most notably a slightly shortened cycle (now down to 22-23 days), and a hugely extended and awful ovulation time. I have been tracking it all for months and basically day 1 to 7 is my period, day 7 to day 15 of my cycle is just awful with cramps, sore breasts, mood swings, etc, for ovulation. Day 17 I start getting cramps, sore breasts, acne and mood swings again in time for my period. I think I have 2 days a month when I feel ok and don’t have a period. Is this perimenopause or maybe just a run of the mill hormone imbalance? Is there no way to check? If I speak to a GP they just instantly say perimenopause - but everything is very regular still, and I have no hot flashes/night sweats etc. plus the women in my family typically hit menopause late. It just feels like my hormones are massively out of whack. My next question is then - any ideas of how best to fix it? I tried to get a mirena coil but they were unable to implant it so I’m on a waiting list to have it done with dilators and anaesthetic etc but wondered if this had helped anyone in a situation like mine? Is HRT the only answer and is it for menopause only or just used for all hormonal imbalances? I’m feeling very lost and GPs just won’t listen. They just keep saying it’s perimenopause and there’s no point in testing anything as hormone tests reveal nothing!
