Is this peri menopause? Anxiety through the roof

I can't sleep much at night as my heart is racing so fast, and I'm finding myself having very dark thought (but am prone to this). I'm 45. Periods are on and off. I'm worried the doctor will just dismiss symptoms.

It sounds very much like peri.

These were my exact symptoms and the doctor agreed it was perimenopause. I started on HRT and the waking up every half hour with a racing heart and impending doom feeling stopped completely. Definitely worth a chat with your gp

They're definitely all peri symptoms. There isn't a test for perimenopause, diagnosis comes from assessing symptoms. Does your doctor have a menopause clinic?

i’m 45 i get this: not often. I even ended up in a&e as i woke up with a fast heart rate and chest pain. Everything was fine i had bloods and test was a few years ago and i knew it was anxiety but thought it was pandemic related ( i work in the NHS)

It only happens every now and then for me. But it’s exactly that doom feeling and a fast heart rate etc. I know it’s probably peri. I get up and sit on the toilet so i don’t disturb my fella. I do some deep breathing and then go back to bed. Im not on HRT as im currently managing my symptoms, probably early peri tbh.

Sounds exactly like what I went through when I started going through the perimenopause. I was also 45 when my symptoms started and they seemed to come all at once and from nowhere. It was brutal. But this one is particularly unpleasant. My doctor put me on HRT and within a few weeks my symptoms were either completely gone or much more manageable. I think you need to make an appointment with your GP and make sure you tell them you think you are perimenopausal. I wrote a list of all my symptoms to reel off to the GP before I went so I didn't forget anything! 😂There was no way I was walking out of that office without my prescription for HRT.

Good Luck x

It’s worth trying some magnesium glycinate. Are you going for HRT?
