Hi All,
So have been in perimenopause for 4 years. First symptoms were insomnia. GP checked my FSH levels (when I was 42) and said they were normal so wouldn't give me HRT but gave me Amitriptyline 20 mg. This worked amazing - but I still did have some nights where it didn't work at all - usually around the middle of my cycle.
I then went back to the GP at the age of 45 (7 months' ago) and FSH was showing as high so they prescribed me 1.5 mg of oestrogen and 100 mg progesterone (days 14 to 28). I seemed to sleep a bit better so it was agreed I could try to come off Amitriptyline. Big mistake - why did I open my mouth?? I have now been off Amitriptyline for a month and I am averaging 5 hours a night (6 on a good night) and sometimes only 3-4. This is making me very anxious, so I rang GP and they told me to increase oestrogen to 3 mg. I am now getting even worse sleep!
Do I just go back on the Amitriptyline - GP has said its an option but I am just so confused and no-one can seem to tell me what to do for best?
