Bleeding at 58

whatisforteamum · 15/09/2024 13:05

So I saw the GP as I had some bleeding and bloating and constipation.
I was concerned as I've been on hrt for 5 yrs and my mirena that expired yrs ago removed.
He asked me where I was in menopause and I explained with the mirena I hadn't had period s since my 40s.
Anyone else think this is a random bleed.
I'm having bloods and a scan done as DM had advanced primary peritoneal cancer then ovarian.

Not clear, did the bleed occur after the coil was removed?

whatisforteamum · 15/09/2024 13:15

Coil removed a yr ago.
One off bleed last week.Surely I've gone through menopause as I've had symptoms from 51.

I’m 57 and still have periods, every second month like clockwork 😩. I’ve had menopausal symptoms for 12 years.

No one can tell you on here OP ….could be nothing , could be something…..you’ve don’t the right thing to get on it straight away…..look at NICE guidance for referrals if you are concerned re cancer ….and see what the criteria is for 2 week urgent referral…..wishing you well

PepperSauce · 15/09/2024 17:54

What HRT have you been taking and have you taken progesterone since having the mirena removed?

maverickfox · 15/09/2024 18:00

I’d agree about asking for a 2 week referral.

Glad you are having the scans. NHS guidance is check out all post menopausal bleeding (regardless of family history).
The vast majority are not sinister but all need checking as that is the only way to identify the few that are.

whatisforteamum · 15/09/2024 20:49

Peppersauce yes been taking both oestrogel and progesterone and stopped taking both at the same time a couple of months ago due to bloating.
Going to scan and tests anyway.
Thank you all for replying.

Your GP is being diligent and is ruling out any more sinister causes of your bleeding. They would be negligent not to do so as, if it were a more serious cause, it would need fast treatment. Hopefully, the bloods and scan will come back clear and your doctor can then move on to other possible diagnoses.

Even a doctor couldn't say to you 'yes this is a random bleed' without assessing all the possibilities first, certainly not the non-medically qualified posters on this site.

I do hope it is a random bleed but trust your doctor.

So the uterus lining was thin.
I do have an ovarian cyst that looks normal and will be rescanned every 4 months to check size.Hopefully it can disappear.
Not cancer though so I'm really relieved. Thanks for the replies.x
