Can I get a hysterectomy so close to menopause?

I am 51. I have severe endometriosis and adenomyosis. I had tried to get to menopause on the basis that some of my symptoms might improve but they aren't at all and I'm in so much pain and what makes it worse is I can't now predict when it's coming as my periods are not regular now. The pain is worse than childbirth.

I've got an emergency appointment with the gynae on Weds. if I ask for a hysterectomy, do you think it's possible to get one? I would honestly cut my own womb out now if I could!

I do hope so for your sake. I had one in my early 40’s for similar - the physiological effect was overwhelming.

Thanks @pilates

I'm absolutely desperate now. I've had to stop working this week as I can barely breathe and can't walk I'm in so much pain. I think moving from being predictable to being unpredictable has really freaked me out. I had to call Dp to come and get me from work because it came on so suddenly and I've never done that before in all my adult life!

Keep on making a fuss to GP and if possible gynae.

Next Wednesday sounds a long time away to me. If you can barely breathe and cannot walk with the pain then you should present at A&E. They will either admit you to the gynae ward or call in a registrar to come and examine you. And they will provide you with pain relief.

If someone is in so much pain that they cannot walk then A&E is the place to be.

I had a hysterectomy at age 42 - best thing I ever did.

That was how I got my hysterectomy by presenting at A&E. A very kind young male doctor promised me he wouldn’t let me slip through the net. My iron levels were so low he couldn’t believe I was walking around and admitted me overnight. I think that made the difference. Good luck and I do feel for you 😔

I had a hysterectomy at almost 51 in the middle of menopause. I kept trying to put it off because of bodily integrity blah blah blah but once it was done I was sorry I waited. It was a massive improvement in my life.

Thanks - this is all very encouraging!

I'm off work now till I see the gynae - I think I'm going to insist on the hysterectomy. I just want this over now!
