Can anyone advise on progesterone timing?

I’m taking HRT and I’m on progesterone and oestrogen. I’m supposed to take progesterone on the 2nd half of my cycle - so I assumed that was for 14 days. Obviously, I take 1.5 mg of oestrogen (gel) daily.

When I first started my HRT it was out of synch with my period because my GP originally advised to start both oestrogen and progesterone on the first day of my next period. However, my period was very, very late and he told me to just start it. Consequently, the progesterone timing was slightly out of sync with my period.

I’m currently just starting my period (have stomach cramps), however I have just noticed that the box says take on days 14 to 28 of cycle. I’m on day 28 of my cycle: however I have been taking my progesterone for 12 days. Should I not take it again tonight?

Thank you Jingling. So I looked at your response on the thread below to the other poster, and you advised to take a note of the date progesterone was started and take it again on that date next month. So I will take this for another two days (making 14 days) and then have a break and take it again on the same date next month?

This causes so much confusion.

The dose is 12 days.
14 days is an option for women who have a heavy withdrawal bleed and want to try to reduce that.

Things have changed since I started taking it.
Then, the dose was always 12 days. (with 14 days an option to extend the cycle.)

But not long ago, a menopause GP wrote a 'guide' for GP where she says that although the dose IS 12 days, women 'find it easier' to do 2 weeks on it and 2 weeks off.

So, you can do whatever suits you best.

Stick to the same date each month.

Hi there, could someone please give me some clarification on taking the progesterone part of HRT as getting a little confused and not sure I have taken it correctly…!
So I put the gel on daily. On the 7th April I started the progesterone tablet which I will take for 12 days.
When do I next take the progesterone tablet? Is it 28 days from the 7th for 12 days again?
Thank you! 😄

My GP said to keep it simple - Days 1-12 of every month. Very easy to remember and keep track.
