Skipped period, is this it or how long have I got?

I've had insomnia for a few years, this month age 45 my normally regular period just didn't come though normal monthly moodiness came and went.

I know no-one has a crystal ball but I really want to know what will happen to my cycle now. Is that it? Will periods come irregularly and for how long? I can't find any info online other than it varies. Can anyone please tell me what happened for you?

That's what happened with me. My very regular periods suddenly became irregular or non existent. I developed insomnia - usually being wide awake for a few hours in the night. I haven't had a period in 4 years now I'm 54.
Go and see your GP. I'm lucky my menopause has been ok. I get hot in summer but no real flashes.
The insomnia is tedious but I've just had an op so that's why I'm awake now.
Not having a period is a bit odd but now it's lovely.

I missed a few a while back and now they are back regular as clockwork. Everyone is different.

TeenToTwenties · 19/08/2024 06:08

Mine went wild. From light and regular to extremely heavy and long. Ended up with operation and then coil fitted.

At 45 you should also rule out pregnancy, one last hurrah from your body.

It true it varies. Don't get complacent with contraception.

mondaytosunday · 19/08/2024 06:13

Because the answer really is 'it varies'. It was a two/three years of irregular periods, once a gap of six months, final one at 56 I believe and then no more. No other symptoms fortunately.

Just had this for the 1st time. 8 weeks between periods, then it was heavy but more brief. Had hot flushes and insomnia for a while now, am almost 48

I'm 45, I missed one period a few months ago but been normal since. I'm also having insomnia, brain fog, up and down moods, fatigue. I've been taking menopause support tablets which I think are helping.

gettingonnow · 19/08/2024 07:06

Thank you, it's nice to hear it's not necessarily stopped forever having missed one like this. Another child would be a dream for me though I appreciate that's probably all it will ever be.

I went 9 months without one, then had two in one month, now it's been three months without - I really hope I'm done now. I'm 51

WildAndFree123 · 19/08/2024 07:53

I am 48 and just had my first period in 10 months, really thought I was done but apparently not.

izzy2076 · 19/08/2024 08:02

Can I hijack as I'm wondering the same? 51years old. Have had a few 'ghost' periods over the last year where I get the pain, the awful PMT but no bleeding. I've now not had a period in 3 months but also no symptoms and no PMT. I feel calm and completely unaware of my luteal phase. ( I actually have PMDD but no more it seems) I've been on HRT for 2 years but still always had periods rather than just withdrawal bleeeds.

DiscoBeat · 21/08/2024 22:14

I found this thread as I'm mystified. I have had dwindling periods over the last 2 years and then nothing for 6 months. I thought that was the menopause but then I had a full on period start today. So maybe not then! Does that mean I start counting again? (I year no periods = menopause, is that right?) No other menopausal symptoms. I'm 53.

PauliesWalnuts · 21/08/2024 22:16

You start the clock again apparently. I had none for 5 months until May and I’ve since bled or badly spotted every day since. Turns out I have a small fibroid. Will be making an appointment with my GP as it’s now seriously affecting my quality of life.

unlikelychump · 21/08/2024 22:21

I've been wondering about spotting. I've been having irregular periods for about a year - am 44. This month I've spotted every day for about 2 weeks. I'm hoping this is a normal peri symptoms?
