Does being menopausal make this feeling worse?

Am not on anything, hrt didn't agree with me.

No one?

Same quandary here. Is my life overwhelming or is it menopausal? If work was easier I wouldn't feel like this. If I didnt have the competing demands of eldery parent and younger children would I feel like this?
Personally I don't want to rush into hrt in case it's just life challenges...but my sex drive is also rock bottom, that must be menopause right?

MindfulBear · 05/08/2024 21:37

I feel the same. However I have seen a specialist about HRT.
I have 0-100 in 1 second rages, no sex drive, am achey, suffer with brain fog and generally not my old self. Definitely not as sharp as I need to be at home or work.

Am starting the progesterone cream next week. As tests show my oestrogen is fine but little progesterone nor testosterone, or at least not in the right ratio range.

I am mid 40s. Will see how it goes.

Apileofballyhoo · 05/08/2024 21:45

What hrt did you try, OP?

ssd · 05/08/2024 21:52

Patches. I started bleeding about 4/5 months in and felt like my boobs would burst. Horrible.

And my anxiety was just the same

Which patch was this? It may be the progesterone element. There are other options.

HRT was life saving for me (am sure different people need different things though).

I am going through a lot at the moment (terminal illness in immediate family) but I had a period where I was almost suicidal as I felt that nothing I did could make a difference. I knew I was being unreasonable- but it was almost like I was observing myself looking at life with the highest possible anxiety.

After coming on HRT, things brightened up. Nothing has changed in absolute measures but I am panicking less about is.

Apileofballyhoo · 05/08/2024 22:00

Were they a combination patch? The type of progestogen in the combined patch doesn't suit some women but body identical progesterone can be better and some women find it very calming and good for anxiety. Your doctor should have tried to find different types that might suit you better. Was it a 50 strength? That can be too high, some people only need 25 or 37.5 or I've even heard of cutting a 25 patch in half...

Exactly that, i am testosterone intolerant and can only use oestrogen only patch and utrogesten tablets.

ssd · 05/08/2024 22:12

It was everol conti 50 patch.

Strangely enough I'd previously tried setraline (long before hrt) and it started me bleeding almost immediately. I stopped that too.

cleowasmycat · 05/08/2024 22:20

You could try a different patch/gel and utrogesten.

Sertraline shouldn't make you bleed - it has zero hormones that would cause that.

thecrispfiend · 05/08/2024 22:42

Utrogestan has made a huge difference to me anxiety and sleep wise - I am 42 xx still no sex drive tho!

Apileofballyhoo · 05/08/2024 22:46

It's definitely worth trying again. Bleeding is usually sign of too much oestrogen and so is breast increase.

herecomesthesunyes · 06/08/2024 08:04

The overwhelmed feeling was one of my main symptoms of menopause. HRT has definitely helped.

Droolylabradors · 06/08/2024 09:03

Do try again and try a different type. I started on 50mcg patch/utrogestan and ended up on 100mcg patch/mirena coil/testosterone.

I am a different woman than I was two years ago.

A lot less crying, rage much better controlled.

I feel the same. I’m using HRT but don’t know if that is part of the problem or if I’d maybe feel even worse without it! I also have thyroid issues so maybe it could be that, or maybe I’m just overwhelmed with life in general (work, elderly parents with health issues, brother also needs care so I’m constantly worrying about the future and how everything will be on me and how I’ll do it all when I still need to work).

Don’t know where to start with unravelling it all but don’t have the energy for anything. No advice OP sorry but just a bit of solidarity. It’s a rubbish feeling.
