Missed periods on cyclical HRT

Hi all,

I’ve been on HRT (3 sachets Sandrena and 12 days Utrogestan) for three years and have had regular bleeds every month on that regime.

Just lately I’ve missed two bleeds. Three months ago did eventually come but was very light, then I had a normal bleed, now I’m 5 days late with this one.

I’ve done umpteen pregnancy tests and all negative.

Can this happen on cyclical HRT and is it ok? It’s like my own system is overriding the HRT and going haywire.

I wouldn’t mind, but I normally feel pretty crap the week before my period (bloated, low mood, anxious, poor sleep) and now I feel like this all the time. I just want my period to come!

Should I see the GP?

Afaik cyclical hrt won't give you periods if you are not going to get them anyway, so it's just usual perimenopause missing periods/irregularity. What it will do is help keep your periods more regular if you are getting them anyway. Progesterone stabilises the womb lining so when you stop taking it, the lining falls away. Provided there is lining there to fall away. That's how I understand it anyway.

Hmm I’m having exactly this but I thought it does give a bleed in almost all cases (hrt doesn’t line up with your natural hormone cycle so your natural hormone cycle can’t be the reason for women usually having bleeds on cyclical?)
So I dont understand why mine have also stopped

I don’t understand either. I take a high dose of oestrogen too, and only 12 days of progesterone, so I would have thought there would be some lining to shed.

It’s frustrating that we’re given so little knowledge. I don’t even trust my GP to know as she was the one who said I couldn’t be in peri if I was having regular periods… 😵‍💫

So it goes to show what they know.
