Hello,
Posted this on general health but no replies so trying here,
I'm being treated for a uti (no symptoms) because blood has shown up on a dip test. I've always had a trace but the GP said there's more than a trace this time, ++ i think she said.
I have health anxiety so trying to be resilient and not worry but thought I'd ask if anyone else has had this. I'm 48 and about 8 years into perimenopause.

Have you had your kidneys checked?

I am also perimenopausal. Last year at annual medical also had ++ or something like that after having "trace" prior two years. Got treated for UTI (also wasn't aware I had one). Got referred to Urology (private healthcare with work) and was terrified was going to need a camera!! Ultrasound looked fine (of kidneys and bladder) and urologist said some people just pass trace blood through the bladder wall - if anything serious blood goes from microscopic to visible in a short time. Since perimenopause I would describe my bladder as "irritated" - feel like I need to go even when I've just been, takes a while to go. Felt like I had a UTI recently and went to GP but urine dip said not. I think it's just one of many wonderful things that come with menopause / being a woman. Try not to worry OP - non-visible blood unlikely to be anything bad.

@OnlyOneAdda,
Thats the same as me. Had a trace of blood as long as I can remember but this time was ++. If it doesn't clear in a couple of weeks they'll refer me but thought I'd ask if anyone else has similar.

Update,
Another urine test has shown ++blood but clear for everything else now. She's sending me for an ultrasound for my kidney, whats the likelihood of this being cancer? I'm terrified. Kepe reading it has to be visible blood but the doctor didn't seem to think that.

It's far more likely to be uro genital atrophy now called GUS - genito urinary syndrome of the menopause. This is when the lining of the bladder and urethra thins and bleeds in a minute amount.
I'd really not worry. It's more likely to be something very simple like that or even vaginal bleeding so light you never notice it.

Try not to worry OP, I always have blood found in my urine on the dip. When we moved new GP insisted on referring me on the two week pathway too, I had ultrasound and cystoscope all was clear. Hopefully the referral will give you peace of mind. Good luck.

Yes agree. I had same OP, traces of blood in urine and turned out was all linked to vaginal atrophy
