First period on Everol Sequi - TMI

I’ve started everol sequi 50 after a break in HRT (oestrogel and Utrogestran) and my periods appearing to stop naturally. I’ve had break through bleeding since the first progesterone patches but a proper period started yesterday after 6 weeks of patches.

The flow is normal but the smell is horrific - I’ve never had a period smell like this in 35 years of periods! It’s a cross between something very acrid and chemical and rotting meat and so strong I can smell it all the time. This can’t be normal, surely?!

I'm a bit confused by something you've said. You're on a sequi type, which gives a withdrawal bleed. But you also said your periods had appeared to stop. Are you post menopausal? Or having infrequent periods?

If you are using sequi, you shouldn't really get any bleeding before the end of the combined patches (which are for half the cycle.) Unless it's your own cycle breaking through (which can happen if you're not post-meno.)

I can't say I can help with the smell. Why would it be different ? Unless it's a build up of blood that's now shedding after a long gap with no periods.

Thanks @JinglingSpringbells - my last period was March and I started the patches in May.

The bleed started on my first progesterone patch but was v light hence referring to it as breakthrough and it continued once I started back on oestrogen only patches. The proper bleeding is now on the oestrogen only part of the patch regime and is more like a normal, heavy period with the exception of the smell, which is so strong and so distinctly different to anything I’ve ever experienced before, it’s really weirded me out!

TBH I'd not worry. You're at the very start of using HRT and in those first few months, anything can happen.
I'd assume the different bleed is because it's an accumulation of blood as you only had a very light bleed previously.

If you can, it might be a good idea to start the combined patches in this cycle after 15 days when you are mid-cycle (in theory) and it might help your cycles to become regular each month.
