Still having periods during Utrogestan phase

Hello. I’m on 1.5 pumps estrogel (love it) and Utrogestan for 12 days out of 28. Since starting back in April it seems the Utrogestan brings on my period a few days in
! Isn’t it supposed to delay it or at least have altered my cycle a little by now? It also gives terrible brain fog for a couple of days before period comes and very heavy bleeds. Am taking tranexamic acid and iron. 47 years old, peri symptoms before starting: rage, insomnia, lethargy and aches.

I have been on HRT for over 2 years now and my period always starts on day 7 or 8 of taking utrogestan. I don't reallly understand it either because I thought it was meant to be a withdrawal bleed you get when you finish the 12 days.

But you're only just 3 months in.
It may take longer to reset your cycle, especially as you're still in peri.
I was 53 when I started HRT and hadn't had a period for about 4 months. Occasionally a bleed starts a day or two before the last Utrogestan but hardly ever.

One thing you could try is to re-set the cycle. So instead of doing whatever you are, wait until 15 days after the start of your bleed and take it then. You could also try taking it with food because this doubles the efficacy. You could also use 14 days not 12 which is an option for heavier bleeds.

I took it alongside cycle to start with. Day 1 of estrogel on day 1 of cycle and brought on a period about 10 days early. This hasn’t happened before but could have had something to do with a virus (possibbly Covid but didn’t test) I caught at same sort of time. Thanks for replies. Will see what happens.

It sounds as if it would be your normal period and using it early in the cycle didn't stop that.

If your periods are regular, you should try to take it mid cycle when your own progesterone is increasing.

Sorry I didn’t explain that well at all! Started estrigel on day 1 of cycle, Utrogestan on day 14 and petrol arrived on day 18. So it warped an otherwise fairly regular (26 days) cycle. I might stop the Utrogestan this month on day 8 as period came anyway and will start again..
