Bleeding - is this normal

Hi, I'm 46 and fairly sure I'm perimenopausal, GP agreed last time I saw her.

I have never had regular periods but they have always come along every 3-5 weeks, until last month. Last month I didn't really have one at all, but some very light bleeding around the time I was expecting it.

Period started yesterday, and this morning (sorry TMI) it looked liked a massacre had occured in the bed- bled through a tampon and sanitary towel. Never bled anything like this before (and since having the kids I am HEAVY). I'm hoping its calming down a bit now but too early to tell.

Anyway I will go back to the GP but I likely will have to wait 2-3 weeks, though I'll call her today if it doesn't calm down.
In the meantime, does this sound like it could be normal? I know nobody here is a doctor but would be good to understand others' experiences.
