Using estriol cream

Hi everyone.

I have just been given this cream cause of painful sex, obviously cause of this lovely thing we all goin through!

I tried my first one tonite, dunno if have done it wrong but pulling applicator back out had some cream on it! Have I done it wrong??

Not directly, but by sorting out dryness & soreness / itching it definitely removes a barrier iykwim

My reactions were yes it did hurt I had no idea how raw I was inside. That took around a week to ease up. Also I felt as if I was getting a touch of cystitis, throbbing sensation. Luckily on another Mumsnet thread they had discussed paper cut type pain and the sensation of getting cystitis.

I just coated the applicator in a smear of cream, gritted my teeth and gently pushed through the painful zone. It's as if I've healed up and closed up completely. Horrible.

I put some cream on the tip of a tampon before inserting it. And also on my vulva.

I found Estriol incredibly messy, especially a few days afterwards, seemed to reappear!!
I have been switched to Vagitabs. A small tablet comes ready loaded in the syringe. No messiness whatsoever but same affect as the cream.

Some women also use the cream externally which you can't with the pessaries.
If you were using Ovestin, it's a tiny amount like /1/5th teaspoon (there is a weaker cream which is 10x the quantity) so it shouldn't be oozing out days later.

Perhaps I was doing something wrong!! Often appeared when I was doing a wee!!
Also appeared on DH bits!! For me, the little tablet is better!!

Is it me or is there a heck of a lot in each application? I've not been consistent and get the paper cuts back, have been motivated to try and keep to a regime by this thread thank you

Dosage about the size of a pea in the applicator. Where are the paper cuts and would smearing a little estriol cream on help @Myclovkosbroken ?

You fill the applicator to the red line. That's about 2cms and the Ovestin applicator is as wide as a smallish pencil. Yes, it will appear the next day but it shouldn't be there days later.

God knows, somewhere 'up there'! Vulva I think? Where you wipe. My applicator seems to have about 6 inches of the stuff in? I need to study this more carefully don't I ...

How long is it supposed to last? I may get about 2 and half weeks out of my tube, got to get another prescription I think already!

There are 15gms in a tube so that's 15 applications.

If you're using it as a 14-day loading, that's 2 weeks.

Once you use it twice a week the tube will last for 7 weeks.

@Myclovkosbroken You may have been given a very weak type where you need to use 10x the amount of Ovestin. That applicator is much bigger.

If you're using Ovestin, you fill the applicator to the red line, which is about 2 cms of cream (just less than an inch.)

I bought a spare tube online because I was supposed to use it daily for three weeks, then twice a week so I was running out.

My applicator definitely does not have a red line. I have got estroil 0.01% cream and the full applicator is way way bigger than pea sized. It is too much really. Wish I could get ovestin as that seems much easier with a smaller dose.

You've got the weaker version where you need 10x the same amount to equal Ovestin.

Why can't you get it?
