Period 15 months after last

I'm currently bleeding 15 months after my last period.

I'm 48 and thought I'd finally reached menopause. Was definitely peri menopausal in 2-3 years prior as previously regular cycle had gone out the window! Saw gynecologist early in 2022 and was given all clear following ultrasound having experienced mid cycle spotting. Have had all typical peri symptoms over recent years.

This definitely feels like a period... Had sore breasts in lead up and usual PMT symptoms as well as cramps. Have seen GP (online via health insurance so not face to face consultation) and a referral under 2 week rule as I know any bleeding past 12 months needs investigating. I see consultant next Tuesday.

I'm not taking HRT.

I'm trying not to worry but, typically fearing the worst!

Has anyone experienced similar?

This happened to me too!

I'm early fifties, had a long peri, then the full hot flashes and brain fog, and I hadn't bled for a year. So I was medically post menopausal. Then suddenly I had a proper heavy period in November, and another this month, January. I started HRT patches last Autumn. That gave me an estrogen boost. My doctor is running tests but I've told her what I think it is: I've started having sex again.

He lives abroad and we see each other once a month, it's very passionate, lots of oxytocin gets released, and that seems to provoke the bleeds. It's like my body is wanting to make babies again. My doctor says it's unrelated to sex but I'm not so sure. I found this blog today.

I'd be really interested to know if anybody else has experienced this...though I realise it's quite a specifc set of circumstances.
