Ovestin and spotting

Hi , I’m 50 and on the mini pill , I haven’t had a period since January. In the last couple of weeks , I have started using ovestin for vaginal atrophy . I have had a couple of weekends of spotting. I was wondering if this is caused by the atrophy or the cream , any advice would be welcome.

TBH it's impossible to be sure which it is. With really bad VA spotting can occur simply by the 'trauma' of inserting the applicator as the vaginal walls are so thin.

It's more likely to be your own period (and just a very light one.)

Wondered how you got on with ovestin in the end and bleeding?
I’m peri so still having periods, just started ovestin cream 10 days ago for dryness etc and just got spotting which has developed into heavier and more period like when I’m not due for 2 weeks.. cant work out if its the ‘spotting’ they talk about in the side affects.. this is more than spotting. Could just be Peri being peri but my periods are usually still quite regular

Hi @moderationincludingmoderation , I have found the spotting has massively improved, I wonder now if it was severe atrophy causing the spotting.

Thanks for the reply @Toomanysquishmallows glad to hear it’s gotten better for you.
I don’t have proper atrophy, just dryness and some other issues that that gynae believes can be helped with this cream. And this is now definitely more a period than spotting… have eased off the daily application of the cream for now
