Can you use Vagirux if you have Mirena Coil?

I had a coil fitted on Friday. I really didn't want one and I've resisted it for over a year but was at the last chance saloon to stop post menopausal bleeding.

I've been scared to use Vagirux since. It says in the leaflet not to use tampons as it could pull the coil out!

Do you think I need to do the loading dose again as I haven't used it for over a week now?

I'm so hoping the coil works as next stop is a hysterectomy.

Hi
I know it’s been 2 months since you posted this but I have the exact same question!
I’m having the Mirena coil fitted at the age of 58 next month as a last gasp chance to stop the bleeding.
How will I be able to insert Vagirux and not dislodge the coil or push the strings up?
What did you do please?

The Vagifem is tiny.

TBH how would the coil be used for contraception if it was so easily dislodged? That's what it was invented for :)

@JinglingSpringbells I hope you’re right! Is Vagifem the same as Vagirux? It’s the Vagirux applicator that worries me as it’s nearly 6” long.

I've not used either but the Ovestin applicator is about that length.
My understanding is that Vagirux is not in plastic and that women were happier with that. Just don't put it all the way in if it worries you.

My point still stands. The Mirena is also used as contraception and therefore has to be able to withstand all sorts 😀

Hello. Yes, I've been using the Vagirux. I asked my menopause specialist and she said it was OK.

@Movinghouseatlast thank you.
Has the coil stopped your bleeding and how are you finding it?

I’ve had the Mirena coil fitted. Just started with the Vagirex after problems obtaining it from the GP and a patch and the bleeding has started again. Does anyone know if this is normal? I’m reassuring myself that everything needs to just settle down and to give it time. Thanks 🙏

I had the coil fitted in September and it took a while for my bleeding/spotting to settle down - all the while I’ve been using Vagirux.
If I forget to pop a Vagirux in every 3/4 days I get some spotting but I’m not sure if it’s connected with the Vagirux or my overall oestradiol level - I’m also having other symptoms connected with low oestrogen.

I've used Mirena coils for contraception for over 15 years and have never been advised not to use tampons, just to take care when using them not to disturb the threads.

Well, I hope so because I do! 🤭

My GP knows I have a Mirena, but happily prescribed Vagirux (is that the right spelling?).

Thank you everyone. I should have added that mine is for menopausal treatment hence the patch as well. I am 57 and prior to the coil I’ve been on an oral combined pill but unusual bleeding has occurred. This has been recommended following consultations, scans, biopsies and latterly hysteroscopy. All have found nothing untoward hence change in HRT 🙏 Hoping it just settles down .
