Options for stopping my periods for good.

I am 47 and recently experiencing night sweats and my menstrual cycle has started to go slightly off synch, so possibly at the beginning of going through the menopause.

Although my periods are not really a problem, apart from going off synch, I am just fed up of having them. Can I just go to my Gp and ask to go on the pill?

What are the other options for birth control that can stop you having periods?

Mirena

I had an ablation to deal with horrible heavy periods about a year ago, and it’s been absolutely liberating.
no more pain.
no more sanitary wear that needs to be changed every hour
no more fear of accidents

it was uncomfortable for a few weeks afterwards but so worth it.

Mirena with transdermal oestrogen for the flushes is the acceptable way forward. It also deals with any contraception issues as fertility can be a bit off/on and it is possible to get caught out.

I did find that sequential HRT sorted the synch problem for me.

I know you asked about other options, but I went on the mini pill to stop periods, as I hated the idea of a merina inside me.

I feel like going with the pill option too, as I also don’t like the idea of having a merina inside of me.

*sync and not synch in original post, sorry.
